bd5times
A bit of history on Devils Mountain The reference to "diablo" or devil can be traced back to 1805, when Spanish military troops searched for runaway mission Indians. At a willow thicket near present-day Buchanan Field in Concord, the soldiers encountered a camp of Chupcan people and surrounded it. During that night, the Indians escaped unseen and unheard.  Angry and confused, the Spanish called the site, "Monte del Diablo", or "Thicket of the Devil". Later, English-speaking newcomers mistakenly assumed the word "monte" meant "mountain" and applied the title to the prominent nearby peak. A linguistic accident thus gave California its Devil Mountain. Buchanan field is the airport in Concord and just on the other side of the highway from Mars. Mount Diablo is a killer place for bike riding.....assuming you can make it to the top ^0^ . 11 miles of up on the paved road...and 11 miles of flying down the mountain. That is, unless you hangglide your way down. You could ride up the fire trails, then fly down, racing dear. You could also check out the tarantulas that can jump sky high (pretty cool). You could also ride your bike after a rain through Pine Canyon and enjoy the 12 creek crossings ^0^ . You won't be clean when you're done. DrumCorpsFan27
I always thought (through no factual information at all) that it was a play off of the Blue Angeles Air-Force flying team. I never bothered to ask anyone. :(

Providing they're home at Nellis AFB, of course. Garry
