As much as I've loved some of the shows the crossmen have put out in the last few years, I would really love to see them return to the top of the bottom 6 and even reach the top 6 again. Hopefully Mr. Litzenberg can help them do that. Good luck to you and the Crossmen as a whole!

Scott Litzenberg Returns as Director of the Crossmen

Monday, September 12, 2005

Alumni "comes home" to head up the corps

In a Monday morning announcement, Youth Education in the Arts has announced that Scott Litzenberg will be the Director of the Crossmen beginning immediately.

Just a day ago, it was announced that Larry Markiewicz would not be returning following two seasons at the helm. Moving quickly, George Hopkins, Executive Director of YEA!, announced Scott’s addition to the Crossmen family, or should it be said, return to the Crossmen family.

In making the announcement, Hopkins stated “the Crossmen’s recent history has been a series of frustrations. From the bus issues of 2004 to the competitive placing of 2005, there is a clear frustration from fans, family and friends. I have read the evaluations and it is clear the members love this corps. I am also proud to be a part of the team that has somehow controlled costs allowing the Crossmen to move forward.”

Hopkins continued, “That said, it is time to move in the direction of excellence. We need a commitment. We need a new and improved plan. We need to experience success. I think Scott can provide that leadership while making a difference here. His history, his background and his personality make him an ideal candidate for the position.”

Scott, a graduate of West Chester University, was for the past 22 years, a band director at Wilson High School (PA), Upper Darby High School (PA) and Unionville HS (PA). Today, Scott is the music department chairperson and director of instrumental music at Unionville, located in Kennett Square, PA.

In the drum corps world Scott has a varied career within the YEA! programs.

- Timpanist with the Cadets in 1982, and 1983

- Crossmen percussion staff 1985 and 1986

- Director of the Crossmen from 1987-1989

Scott was elected to the Crossmen Hall of Fame this past summer, and since 1999, he has served as a member of the Drum Corps International Contest Coordinator and Event Staff.

Mr. Litzenberg is married to Mary, a Crossmen Alumnus, and together they have a daughter Kristin.

In accepting the position Scott was brief. “I am honored to accept this position and I look for great things from the Crossmen. Our first steps are to put together an administrative team with the assistance of the YEA! office, and begin to contact staff to put together the best possible team for 2006 and beyond. It is great to be home”.

Sounds like a concflicting statement, "its time for excellence" it was said in ealier statements that Larry and gang achieved that; no break downs, no problem a smooth summer the best in recent history, other than the ending placement. I love it when he can cloud press releases. Scott must be the master programming guy that was misssing. Here's hoping he can. As it sounds he will inherit a good group of kids that are now seasoned members, know how to handle the road and conduct themselves. He should make a huge jump, top 7 with those kids.

... there's that "bottom six" thing again ...

Anyway, this definitely sounds like a move in a positive direction for the Crossmen. I wish Mr. Litzenberg and 'Bones' the best. :D

In 2004 the Crossmen did not travel very well and dropped two places from the previous year. Despite outstanding travel conditions, the corps still dropped two places out of finals in 2005. As for the comment about the summer reports that came from YEA regarding the quality of the director, you have to tell the parents something positive when their kids are calling home reminding them to cancel their tickets to Finals or book a plane flight a day earlier.

Personally I am excited to see Scott chosen as the next director of the Crossmen. After hearing Larry was leaving my heart sank, leaving me to just hope for the best for the Crossmen. The news of Scott taking on the position of director was shocking and great, I could not have hoped for a better suprise.

I think with Scott's connection to the corps and the sound economic position the group now enjoys we can expect some awsome seasons in the near future.

Best of luck to YEA!, Scott and the Crossmen family. I hope to drop many dollars and a few volunteer hours towards the cause.

Boots!
