iggygirl
I'll say it was Hy Dreitzer and TOmmy Martin. When I think about how we learned music back in the '70s it amazes me that those two men were able to do what they did with us girls. I marched in St. Ignatius and I joined when I was I think 10. Man, I never even held a horn before and within two years I was a solo soprano. We didn't read music, we were given the notes and rests and how long to play them for. I found some of my music a while back and it was too funny. It was Oklahoma Crude and it was just like A for 2 B flat for 6 and so on. They both had patience which was an absolute neccesity because you had Carmen Cluna ranting and raving (who I absolutely LOVED) and Mr. Dreitzer puffing on his pipe calmly and Tommy Martin just shaking his head but the "rat pack" worked miracles together. Tommy Martin could double and triple tongue like nobody's business and taught many of us girls to do it. If you listen to some of St. Iggy's old tracks you'll hear one of the songs where just about the whole hornline triple tongues for just about 1/2 a song and ALL TOGETHER!!!!!!!
