Isn't it possible that Bluecoats, Crown, and Madison had better executed and better designed shows than SCV this year? Everyone says SCV dropped the ball this past season, and perhaps they did a bit. However, I see it more as other corps picking up steam than Vanguard "sucking".

w/Stp:

That has more to do with it than anything. SCV got what they deserved... nothing more, nothing less!!!

if they would've done better visually, i think they could've gotten as high as 4th or 5th.

But thats just it. They did just FINE visually, the scores refect that. The MUSIC captions were their weakest area.

Bingo !! I'm with you, but you aren't stupid !! See, 2005 SCV, will be debated for years to come, and I hope those that do it at least had the opportunity to see them to really comment accurately becuase quite frankly, numbers just dont do this show, or its members justice. 8th place...so what. The quality, appeal, and reward from this show is endless and very fufilling. A slow start coupled with the bar being raised by a few other corps just made it a more competitive field.

The difference in performance level from Thursday to Saturday was very extreme, night and day. In reality, they were poised on makng a move and passed BAC, a result of their hard work and had they had "one more week" as the cliche' goes, so yes, a slow start was a major factor.

I see them making a move next year, lots of good things coming out of the bay area.

ps: to the members of 2005 SCV that have emailed me both today and in the past, no thank YOU for a wonderful, quality show worth losing my voice over for yelling and cheering. It was a fine job and Im sure Gail would have been proud.

i saw 4 early season performances in CA and finals night. i also got a report from other fellow corps members that watched semis.

and, holy crap, was finals spectacular. wow.

i got the same intensity, feel, everything that i got from watching Scheherezade (sp?) finals night the year before.

they must've got some great pumping up under the stands during the delay. getting to watch the guard warm up, the drumline play the drum solo, and the hornline play Phantom all at the same time....wow.

although SCV stumbled (pretty badly) out of the gate, which as others have said hurt them badly, they had a pretty #### good year, performance wise.

can't wait for next season....

I agree with much of what was said here. Having seen Vanguard as early as the first SoCal shows and then many times over the summer until Saturday night, the change was drastic. To me the change in power and emotion in the show was so much larger simply from Thursday to Saturday than from SoCal to Quarters. Something lit a fire in there, and come Finals Vanguard was red hot. It just came too late and the other corps in the top group had raised the bar.
