OhioStateTad
Suncoast '86.....GORGEOUS mello solo. 8:45 in. Absolutely beautiful....who was that?? Jared, her name is Jill Clemmons (sp?). Her name was atop the Mello I&E's in the 80's (with at least one 99). Spectacular tone quality! She was featured on the 1986 PBS Highlights broadcast talking about after drum corps, she' go back to her "legit French Horn." She was reallll purty, too! hehe I'm glad you noticed. She was amazing (in 1985, too!).
OhioStateTad
Shawn Stockman, the sop soloist from Phantom Regiment's 1985 "Symphonie Fantastique." She had those gloriously technical chops midway thru the show. Wowie. Don Angelica (PBS) took time to praise her musicality and playing! Not bad for a chick from Ohio. :P

X DM
So I thought it would be cool to bring the idea of favorite 80s solosMine has to be BD 86 Ballad Solo Easy choice for me. Jerry Noonan, North Star Sop. Soloist playing " Ole ". think it was 1980 or so. As a matter of fact, I'm hoping the North Star make the Classic Countdown. This North Star soloist was one of the best Soprano Soloists in DCI history . He stood out there alone for " OLE".. The exposure was all there, and the risk taking enormous in the ending of the song, as the corps completely stopped playing and he reached down and cranked out a great ending to the song. He was awesome. He was at his best in big competitions it seemed too. He nailed his solos, all of them, at DCI Championships for his Corps. He's my choice for best single soprano soloist for their corps, and I've seen or heard all the great single soprano soloists for the top 12 Corps in each year since DCI began. dugada
'83 Blue Devils baritone soloist during "Everybody Loves the Blues". I second that Eric reprised his solo work on the BD Alumni and Friends album with a strange horn with this sliding thing on it. :)
