Imagine This If You Can

Recommended Posts

Think we're seeing it two different ways so I'll wait for ODBC to explain.

Heh - 5 sets of judging standards as the Erie Thunderbirds also marched in the RCA (small Sr circuit) which had their own set of rules.

Also need short prelim shows (what were they - 6 min?).

And inspections.

LOL, inspections were before my time. But we can chop out the concert number in the Prelims.

OK, AL or VFW rules ^0^

It's fun to think of the POSSIBILITY of an annual DCI Alumni show on Finals weekend. Twelve corps, each about the size of Two-seven's reunion corps or this year's Scouts Alumni...Incredible! The other ten corps I would add are: SCV, BD, Troopers,Spirit, Crossmen, Phantom, Anaheim, Muchachos, VK, and of course...the Bridgemen! Imagine all these corps playing their "Greatest Hits."

...and now, back to reality. I think DCI would frown upon such a show. Why? Because when the attendance figures were tallied, they would dwarf the numbers for Finals attendance. And we just couldn't have that, now could we? b**bs

Along that line - part of the problem (for DCI) is that folks that would be paying fans would now be on the field.

I wonder what percentage of fans at finals are drum corps vets? Probably pretty high.

Just remembered that some(?) years the Alumni show at DCA tried to recreate the feel of the old Dream Contest that started well before DCI or DCA. Idea was to have 5 Jr based Alumni corps followed by 5 Senior based Alumnis.

Now what could be done for a DCI Alumni show? CYO, World Open, ??????

This would be a great evening, but as pointed out it will never happen. What is available? DCA's Alumni show -- the Hawthorne Alumni and New Skyliners Alumni are tremendous, and could probably beat a lot of DCA corps with a little more practice.

But if you don't mind just listening to great corps from the past, tune into Diceman Internet Radio on Live365.com: http://www.live365.com/radio365/

Now we have four sets of judging standards to choose from. DCI (tic/not tic) and DCA (tic/not tic) systems?

How 'bout bringing out the "Applause-O-Meter"?????

Actually our corps hosted two shows that used "something" like that (never totally explained 'cause it sounded like BS to me). Then we had a CPA (he played mellie for us) tabulate the "results" (what ever the hades that meant).

Show was a Jr exhibition held the day after 75 and 76 DCI Finals. Finals were at Philly and our show was at Hershey. Show was advertised as "a way for the performers to do the show one last time without judges on the field". Translation: one last chance for gas money for the Jr corps and way for us to get much needed $$$.

By your own definition at the start of this thread, YES.

DCI would not want to train judges in two different ways of judging. Or hire twice as many judges. One half for juniors, other half for seniors. That's just too expensive.

Which means it would be up to the corps to compete in a level very similar to junior corps of today. Thus, DCI would force changes and alumni corps would really only be alumni corps in name. But not in memory.

No Judges, no rules, no limits!!!!!!!!!!!
