All-Age and Junior Corps Together In Allentown

Recommended Posts

Ever wondered what all-age -- or "senior" -- corps was all about? Ever wonder how it's similar to, or different from, junior corps? Want to be entertained and see members ranging in age from their teens to their fifties pour their hearts and souls into a powerful performance?

Then come to the DCI Eastern Classic in Allentown on Saturday, August 5, and see the 2005 Drum Corps Associates World Champion READING BUCCANEERS in exhibition! And stick around to see the best of DCI in the final regional competition before DCI Championships in Madison.

The evening's festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. The Buccaneers will open the Saturday evening competition with an exhibition of their 2006 production, entitled EXOTIC IMPRESSIONS, which features Bolero, by Maurice Ravel, Claire de Lune, by Claude Debussy and Capriccio Espagnol and Sheherazade, both by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.

When this unique opportunity first arose, DCI Executive Director Dan Acheson was pleased that the Buccaneers’ performance will showcase all-age drum corps for the DCI fans in attendance. “The DCA World Champion Reading Buccaneers are sure to delight our long-time followers of the DCI Eastern Classic in Allentown. The insertion of this great all-age corps to kick off the Saturday night event is a huge bonus for fans and participants alike. Drum Corps International is pleased that the Bucs have agreed to present their 2006 program to what I’m sure will be a large and very excited audience,” Acheson said.

“The Buccaneers are grateful to Dan Acheson, DCI and the DCI Eastern Classic planning committee for honoring us with this fantastic opportunity to perform for what we know will be an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and appreciative drum corps crowd. DCI East is a legendary event that has taken place in our own backyard for many years. We are very excited to showcase what the Buccaneers and all-age corps are all about,” said Buccaneers Corps Director James C. Gruber.

Founded in 1957, the Buccaneers are a non-profit, education-oriented musical organization. The Buccaneers are a charter member of DCA and won the first-ever DCA world championships in 1965. Additional titles followed in 1968, 1979, 1980 and 2005. In 2005, the Buccaneers enjoyed the finest competitive season in the organization’s history, completing an undefeated season with a world championship in which the Buccaneers won every judged category and posted the second highest score in DCA championships history, a 98.45 out of a possible 100.

The Bridgemen alumni corps is also scheduled for Saturday August 5th. Has there been a change in the schedule or do we get both of these great groups?

I'll assume one corps will go on after the last performing corps, but before the scores are annouced. Will the other go on before the show?

No news concering any changes on Bridgemen's site or DCI.

Maybe one group is playing Friday the 4th?

I believe the Bridgemen also perform that night but later. Makes sense as they are a DCI alumni corps. Bucs open the show. So get there early! :P
