audiodave
Let's not confuse a slide whistle with a siren whistle, please. Oh my god..I think I DID confuse the two when i mentioned Cavies.. I really need to get serious about my whimsical instrument identification.
drumcat
At least it wasn't the year of the regular whistle like last year was! Amen to that. '05 was annoying that way.BTW, I wasn't trying to be an arse about the whistles. I just thought it would be interesting to see that there is a difference. :)

the_sorcerer's_apprentice
I thought it was cute when the Bluecoats did in the middle of their second song this year. Another "percussion" instrument that I like is the whirly tube (it's official name), which the pit uses. It's the plastic tube you can swing around and it makes whistling sound. And you could chase people with it under the guise of "but I'm practicing!"

Yes, I think I saw it twice at II/III finals and once again at Div. I finals. Couldn't tell you the corps offhand, but how is that percussive? Is it bell front? Am I just being silly opening up this pandora's box? Isn't a grand piano more percussive than a slide whistle or a whirling tube of plastic? Me thinks I have to go back to work...too much vacation time.
