lnavis
Wha Who! Madison is from Madison again!
msesq
You'd be surprised how big of a deal this really is from a community-relations standpoint. The relationship of the Madison Scouts to the City of Madison is legendary - not to mention the millions of dollars that the City has benefited from as the result of various DCI Championships being held at Camp Randall. I know that drum corps is not as centered on community as it once was with kids auditioning for corps based thousands of miles away from home, but community used to be much more central to the drum corps experience. A few miles here or there may not seem like a huge difference, but having the Madison Scouts officially located in Madison is a big deal to those of us who go way back (i.e., my dad marched in the 50's). Especially, if you want the community to support the corps financially.
lnavis
I totally agree - I am happy! I alway wondered when I drove by the Scouts office on Main Street in Sun Prairie!!??
oldbandguy
Do you honestly think moving the office SIX MILES is going to make any difference at all? They were still the MADISON Scouts. They were NEVER, not once, introduced as the Sun Prairie Scouts. I might be swayed to say it makes a difference IF you told me that the majority of the members were coming from Madison, but over the past few years (including the later part of Scott Stewart's years) the majority of the members did not even come from Wisconsin, much less Madison. Of course the Scouts are no different in this regard than many other corps. Good luck to the '07 MADISON Scouts...no matter where you're mail gets delivered. GGarrett
WHY on earth would you let this bother you so much?? You think it's no big difference... that's fine... OK, point made. Let it go... and pull the undies outta yer ###...

I was responding to a few others out there in a different thread. Sorry for the confusion! (By the way, thanks for helping me with my sash and cords before each of the MSARP shows this summer!! I don't know what we would have done without your help!)

It makes a huge difference in fundraising - trust me. If you want a community to support you financially, it makes some sense to be located within that particular community. Lots of competition for charitable dollars these days. So, in conclusion, I "honestly think" moving the office SIX MILES will make a difference. I agree with you that corps are less community-based than in the past, but the citizens of means within the communities still want to donate to community-oriented organizations. I don't think that's what the O.P. was intending here, but there have been numerous posts on other threads suggesting exactly that over the past few months since the change in directors. Sure didn't mean to upset you.

Sure didn't mean to upset you. You're right - I didn't intend to imply that at all. The Scouts of the past three years are as much Madison Scouts as any of their brothers who marched before them. Thanks for the clarification - I don't blame you for being defensive regarding such an implication.
