t-mac
I just got and viewed my copy of "Deep Purple" featuring Carolina Crowns shows from '04-'07. First viewing of complete shows from '04, '06, &'07 (saw Bohemia in the theatre broadcast). One thing that I noticed was that Bellisimo was probably the most percussion heavy show that I have ever witnessed. Don't get me wrong, there were some nice hornline moments, but I can't think of any other show that I've ever seen that relied so much on battery, pit, and even guard for that matter. Am I alone in this opinion? Can anyone else think of a show that had so little brass in it?
Galen
Sure. Cadets, from last year.
Jami
Well, considering that two of their percussion features are movements of a percussion ensemble piece (Stained Glass) - it doesn't surprise me that they chose to utilize them as percussion features, and I'm glad that they did - I liked them in that original form, with the slightly arrangement. The timbres just within the metals alone in those features are incredible.

After the disastourous 2002 season, CC had to rebuild the brass program with a new caption head and brass staff (Harloff and the boys) It was a very young and inexperinced horn line. Early on, the design staff recognised this and built the show around the corps strengths, which at the time were percussion and CG.
LaSqueegee
Must be a great CD to own. I'll be the first to say I can't stand the '04 show....but the growth of Crown since 2002 is amazing!!!
Hrothgar15
Yup, I remember during the summer of 2005, Conner was all like, "You know, you guys should check out Carolina Crown, they're really good this year." And I remember thinking, "Oh, Crown, the people with the 'IT'S THE BEAT GENERATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' show? No thanks." Then I saw their show at Powder Springs. Iplaytimpani
Just another example of what happens when people pass judgement before they actually see or hear it. Glad you at least got to see that you were being stupid based on something you didn't like in the past and didn't miss out on a really well done show. The brass section was probably the weakest section in the corps, being pretty young and inexperienced.
drumcat
Boston 2000 - about 5 minutes worth.
dcpguy1111
Boston 2000 - about 5 minutes worth. Umm, no. The hornline's pretty much playing throughout the whole show. Aside from the drum break in the opener (which isn't even that long), and the singing in the ballad (which isn't even that long). No, you're pretty much just wrong.
