S. Pearson
Heh........only 9 more days 'til we get to relive the '82 DCM run-off. ^0^ The Scouts came out on the short end of that show, but what a great moment that was for the activity... Any time you can perform twice for a crowd like that simply awesome for everyone-not just the 2 corps!!! Thanks for the reminder Z, I forgot about that show! HUGADA
Drums Along the Rockies 7/10/82 Mile High Stadium - Denver, CO1 Blue Devils 84.000 2 Phantom Regiment 82.550 3 Santa Clara Vanguard 79.050 4 Madison Scouts 78.000 5 Freelancers 73.550 6 Sky Ryders 72.050 7 Troopers 59.750 8 Valley Fever 55.250 9 Blue Knights 36.000 10 Blue Stars 35.750 We had our best performance to date and like I said in another post, thought we beat the Devils, as did their staff. Alas, it was not meant to be. It was our first loss of the season. I remember this show, but mainly because when we got back to the school where we were staying, someone had bought a Birthday cake for me and another person in the drum line...my 21st! Good times, fun memories! On a slightly different note, my very first year in drum corps was in '74, so that was another reason why I went to finals in Denver in '04, to celebrate my 30 years from start to end! Jd83
I'll never forget this day. We were beating Madison by about four points all season long and all of a sudden, they were a tenth behind us. It definitely got our attention. It's easy to say this was the longest contest day I ever spent in drum corps. We were looking over our shoulder at Madison after Prelims and were motivated to put on our best performance for DCM Finals.
Jd83
Here are the standings for the 1982 DCM Championship. A lot has been said about what happened next. Needless to say, the crowd was surprised and Joe Bruno had a field day with it. 1 Madison Scouts 84.550 1 Phantom Regiment 84.550 3 Cavaliers 79.100 4 Geneseo Knights 72.650 5 Colts 59.800 6 St. Croix Rivermen 58.450 7 Saginaires 56.650 8 Pioneer 49.500 9 Guardsmen 49.300 10 Imperial Guard 46.350 Hardly anyone left between Finals and the Runoff and both corps started warming up at midnight. Madison went on first and they lit the crowd up. We then took the field and did the same thing. It was nice to get Madison style cheers from the crowd. What a great competition!! Here are the Runoff scores. 1 Phantom Regiment 85.400 2 Madison Scouts 85.000 I lift my glass and toast the members of both corps for stepping up and putting on great performances in the face of exhaustion. I don't know about Madison, but we didn't go to sleep until about 2am. The Runoff may be why both Madison and us had about a 5 point drop the next day at Horicon, WI.
