It was Dan Moore who always used to say judges screwed us in 82 and 83 because they could. there was no precedent of us having been in the top 12 for DCI to break, so they could always jusitfy keeping us out.

Both shows had the potential to be DCI Finals shows. Who knows what whould have happened if y'all were scored properly. Bob Briske did blow a gasket in '83 when all the Midwest corps took a beating at DCI Midwest.

Still trying to figure how you seriously improve your overall execution from DCI Midwest Prelims and get the same exact Finals score as you did in Prelims, 75.75. That officially took us out of the running for the 1983 DCI Championship. Who says there's no bias in DCI judging? :P

That score during the tick system was HUGE!

That was an exciting season. Madison had a killer horn line as did SkyRyders. Phantom and BD were undefeated, leading up to showdown at DATR. Garfield came out and shocked everybody with a show that was so unique and cool. Garfield beating Madison at DCI Midwest was a huge shock to the drum corps world. Then the "whoah" moment when Garfield beat SCV for their first time.

Bayonne still had that amazing drum line, but BD was knocking on their door with the beginnings of the next drum dynasty. Bayonne's 3-peat followed by BD's 4-peat led to the percussion trophy going to only 2 corps over a 7 year span. Pretty incredible. Even more so when you add in SCV and the drum trophy went to only 3 corps for a 10 year span.

Blue Devils completed a 4-peat in brass with our win. 6 brass tophies in 7 years. Undefeated in brass in 1982, beating Madison's 75 brass score. That stands as the highest brass score ever recorded and is guaranteed now with the current scoring system. Although, BD got a perfect score which no matter how it's extrapolated, perfect score is perfect score.

Crossmen's "Russian Christmas Music" was the talk of the off season. Two Seven had a fun show but was in the position of not being the Beast of the East in 82. Spirit was at the bottom of their slide before they started climbing the ranks again.

Rumors were rampant that SCV was going to break out the Bottle Dance and they did....to a thunderous roar.

Yeap....82 was a great season.

Not even "the bottle dance" could defeat them!

Then again, it was a rather dirty bottle dance. The '78 Bottle dance, though...good stuff. Good enough to be Phantom *shakes fist*

Wow...what an experience it was! Going back field in the exit piece and then turning around was the first time I ever allowed myself to look at the masses. Then I smiled and a tear came...age-out year besides. Then I quickly sobered up as we prepared for the those gates.
