JT76
So, Crown's show is going to be the best of Dropkick Murphys? I could live with that.
Martybucs
I think there were a few people who got confused, and voted yes. I think MikeD abused his moderator privileges and voted many times for.
Bruckner8
Technically, I would vote YES because I think it would be great if DCI would allow woodwind soloist in the pits. I certainly do no believe that anyone is seriously thinking of woodwind section marching on the field. Just to be clear, I *AM* thinking of WW sections on the field. I'd love to have 8 Clarinets playing a single part one line above (or with) the lead trumpets. And 6 piccolos an octave higher than that. And don't forget the power, projection, and noodling abilities of saxophones. Only Alto and Tenor (8 each) would make sense at first, especially if we're stuck with 150 members. That's 30 WWs. May as well go back to 64 horns, since Lucas Oil Stadium is a vast wasteland of brass sound anyway. Make the guard 32. Only need about 8 pit members now, with amps and synths. Drumlines need only 7/3/5. One drum Major. If you want more conductors, make the pit smaller. Hell, make the synth ruke into "Anything goes" and you only need 1-2 people in the "front ensemble. But I vote for making the corps 200 members instead (one more bus), using the extra 50 spots for WWs.
bawker
Voted no. Give it another off season or two, though. . . .they'll be in the pit soon enough.
jdpk3000
My response is more nuanced than a simple yes or no. I can't say I ever want to see entire woodwind sections, but I'd be quite happy with an effective woodwind solo from the pit. Even a small string ensemble from the pit. I voted YES. I want the extra colors. I want more acoustic colors. I'd put WWs in before I'd put in synth, that's for sure.Drum Corps is about the Excellence...I almost don't care what the instrumentation might be, but it has to be loud, and it has to be acoustic, and it has to work outdoors. Those conditions practically ensure that most of it will have to be brass, duh. Boooo synths, Yaaaaaay WWs! atlvalet
Threads like this are why DCP has a bad reputation. Stupid rules changes are why GH has a bad reputation.

No, judgemental people are the reason why DCp has a "bad" reputation......and btw, woodwinds in DCI would spell the end of the activity fr many.. Bruckner8
all i have to say is go watch BOA and please stop ruining my favorite activity on the world.........thanks BOA is not nearly as excellent as DCI; otherwise I would. It's why I'd prefer to travel an hour to hear the Cleveland Orchestra (and pay more) than go hear my local regional orchestra. DCI IS ALL ABOUT THE EXCELLENCE. Who cares what the instrumentation is, as long as it's acoustic, outdoors,and--most importantly--LOUD? We've already violated one of those...the most important one: Acoustic. If I didn't "volunteer" like I do, I wouldn't pay a cent to watch DCI right now, especially after the awful uses of synths, and the stadium situation. I'm amazed that people are willing to give synths a pass vs WWs. At least WWs are acoustic, and would encourage more participation. Amps and Synths encourage LESS acoustics, and less participation. DCI is now all about Outdoors and Loud. May as well be a rock concert. No thanks.
