Yes, I just found the article (they spelled Dirt's name wrong)

Typical stuff that went on in most junior corps I'd say. You know, the guys and the girls in the guard. But yes, he did have a knack for attracting the ladies. Both he and Paul Daunt, but Paul was already spoken for. That was some french horn section and in 62 before #402 got there, they even had a Doo Wop group thing going on. Bunch of characters for sure. Heh. Prior to that, it was Buddy Perry (RIP) and Chuck Ohlmiller and the gang.

WOW!!! There are some names from the past. Paul Daunt, Buddy Perry and Chuck Ohlmiller.

Little tid bit about Chuck and more about the Skyliners. I was over Chuck's house one Sunday during the winter before the 66 season. His dad was laying tile in a newly finished attic and like a good son he was there to help. There he was on his knees, but wearing a leather jacket like he was on his way out, but kept laying tile with his dad. I went downstairs and told his sister, Chuck looked like he wasn't thrilled about helping out. She said, he'd rather be on his way to his Skyliner rehearsal. I said, who wouldn't? That spring, Sky had a weekend rehearsal out on the island. I think it was Lindenhurst. Lots of folks there to watch. Late that afternoon, Chuck had some of the guys over his dads house for some eats and to listen to a newly released record. An indoor show with the premier of Charlie Welch. There was Pepe, Pee Wee, I think Jo Jo and a few others (Too long ago to recall all the names) sitting on the floor Indian style, listening. They kept playing CW over and over. They were like little kids laughing and pointing to each other saying, "That's Me!", "Listen!", "That's Me!".

I really got a kick out of that day. A little sad now though, remembering back. There at the Lindenhurst school while the rest of the corps was learning drill, leaning on the fence up front, most likely for a trio or duet, stood Bucky Swan and I believe Gus Wilke and maybe someone else. Again, it was long ago. Good to recall most of that though. Good times.

Yeah I remember that weekend. It was probably the trio in "Hava Nagilah", Swan, Gus and Vinny Costanza (or PeeWee, not sure which). Chuck was a really great guy. Only played with the Skyliners for a couple of years but was a real asset.

Chuck did early 60's after Selden, then I know he was there also in 68. I saw him on retreat at Mission Drums with Sky in 68.

Was he in that accident with *Dirt*?

I can't say for certain. I didn't know 'Dirt' back then and never knew he was also in a serious accident. I'll have to ask him when I get a chance ( and if I remember to ask him!!!). Senior moments are occurring too frequently these days!

I had the privilege of marching with Paul in the Sunrisers, my first two seasons there...1977-78. He was the best French horn player we had... and for my money, on the short list of best Sunriser French horn players ever.
