Galen
It's been a bit of a bumpy road to get here, but we are off and running for season 21! The hallmark of this season is new venues in new locations, and today is a perfect example of this as we have four new (or mostly-new) venues for today's opening events. The largest event takes place in the midwest at Avon Lake HS just outside of Cleveland, where Buckeye Brass and The Stud Bolts looks to be an intense opening night matchup. In the south, another strong matchup takes place between Euphony Empire and The Knights, but newcomers Bad Brass will be looking to seize a piece of the spotlight at Dutch Fork HS in Columbia SC. In the east, a pair of rookie corps, Jersey Shore and the Rackmen, make their debut at Greenwich HS in Greenwich CT And out west, Chicago-based Fleur de Lis headlines a small event at Yorba Linda HS in Yorba Linda CA. Good luck to everybody tonight! Scores should go up sometime around 10 pm tonight, but will typically be updated the morning after the show takes place for most days. StarOrg
For us too. Whew. We are all loaded up and ready to hit the road. For the first time ever all 3 of our corps will travel together for the entire season. Start East...head across large pond to Euro tour...back down South..then head West young man. We start in Myrtle tomorrow night. Good luck to all directors and corps. Eight seasons of captions!?!? This is one director getting older and more blind. Galen
Today's events: The Buckeye Brass contingent of corps had a stellar opening night in Avon Lake, posting comfortable victories in 2 of the 3 divisions. These other midwest corps appear to have some catching up to do tonight, and Akron's Infocision Stadium, the first "large venue" event will be their first chance to start making up ground. After last night's "tune-up" in Yorba Linda, Fleur de Lis will face some competition from Phantom Vanguard at Westminster HS, just outside of LA. In the southern region, The Knights held off an upset-minded Bad Brass by a slim margin in Columbia. Can they keep up with Star of Jupiter tonight when the defending World Class champs make their season debut at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach SC? In the east, several corps, including Black Bayou Regiment and Texas Zephyrs, are making long drives to attend tonight's show at Holyoke HS in Chicopee MA. Galen
Today's shows: Southern corps will be making their way north out of their region to compete at Mitchell Field in Bluefield WV. Located right on the state line, corps will literally be warming up in one state and performing in another: Out west, Fleur de Lis's "solo tour" of California continues. They're posting high scores now, but will happen they face competition? Last night in Ann Arbor, The Stud Bolts stopped Buckeye Brass's early-season winning streak with a victory at their home show in Ann Arbor. They'll have a chance to continue building momentum tonight at Dakota HS in Macomb MI, just north of Detroit. Finally, in the east, an intense matchup is set between The Knights and Polaris Regiment at Dartmouth College's stadium in Hanover NH. This show will also see the season debut of Majestic and Redcoats.
Galen
Just one competition tonight at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland ME, but it's a doozy of a lineup as Buckeye Brass heads east to challenge the top corps from that division. Fleur de Lis posted another amazing number in Fremont last night, causing many directors to cry "West Coast Fantasy Inflation!". But it was Class A corps Chicago Sound that was the big head-turner, posting a 7 point win over the competition in Macomb. The Chicago crew definitely has their act together early this season.
