  1. All this talk of late season and/or finals week shows out west is brightening my weather spirits. Thanks westies. Very solid arguments are being raised here. Maybe someday... In the meantime, fingers are crossed for weather gods to smile down on Allentown, especially day 1.
  2. And no threat of rain. And no threat of rain. And no threat of rain.
  3. Could be two rainouts in a row for OC. Ouch. Must. Stay. Positive.
  4. Considering all the rain, threats of rain, and general stress about weather this season, from both fans and the poor corps having to deal with it, I am GLAD finals week will be indoors!!! Just saw a pic on OC's facebook site of all the equipment that had been out for the Rome show.... all of it lined up in a hallway for "drying".
  5. I asked this same question on the Allentown weather thread. Seems a workable solution if the corps are all still in the vicinity. Isn't this the show that determines performance order at prelims? So if only half the corps perform that would be seriously unfair.
  6. Sorry if this is a repeat question... looked through and didn't see anything... If, say, Friday were a rainout, would they just hold Saturday and tough beans for the Friday corps? Is there a chance they'd try to combine it all into Saturday?
  7. Uh, Cascades and Oregon Crusaders belong on the list of far to go corps.
  8. Yeah Texas also has private lessons as part of their curriculum, or so I've heard. This all makes me kind of sad. We are fighting for our music program lives here in Oregon, and I know other states have the same problems we do.
  9. Rain out in Rome tonight and Allentown looks bad for Friday. Weather here in Oregon has been pretty much perfect for weeks. I know there is zero chance of a DCI event being held here past July 3, but a girl can dream can't she?
  10. I haven't been around drum corps that long but is this one of the worst years ever for rain outs, threats and general stress about the weather? I am thinking how much corps depend on the run-throughs as practice, dealing with rehearsals in the rain and so on. Enough rain already!
  11. Where I live, marching band is not king. Wind ensemble is. There is a select group of schools, and in some cases, districts, in the state that always have good programs but too many schools don't have any competitive marching ensembles at all. Money is raised for the strong programs, of course, but not 50K - 100K.
  12. OK so let's itemize the rest of the costs to get at total design costs. Anyone?
  13. Wow I live in the wrong part of the country. Where in the USA, or in the world, do high schools have 12 - 20K to spend on a marching band show design? We are still trying to replace old, broken instruments in my district. I want to work in a school with a budget like that! Woo hoo!
  14. It's not so much just about finals week, at least not for me. It's about the access to shows throughout the season. The shows out west are the earliest of the season and usually separated by hundreds of miles and several days, especially where I live in the Northwest. Shows back east are much closer together both in distance and time. Fans often have several choices of shows over a few days - with drivable distances inbetween. Add to that the fact that shows are SO much better now than they were in early July. Holding finals out west would provide some kind of balance to this. I don't suspect east coast people will support or even understand this plight for west coasters but it IS an issue.
  15. Absolutely agree! Plus there is the added factor of much less likely storm threats out here on the frontier... lol
  16. I have venue and coast envy right now. I live in Portland, Oregon and we get our one show here at the absolute beginning of the season and then all the corps clear out of the west entirely and head east, where you fans get multiple show ops PLUS the advantage of seeing the more polished shows. This venue looks like an absolute winner from the pics I've seen. And who doesn't love to see their kid warming up with his section in someone's front yard? Absolutely priceless. Love the strong drum corps tradition you have in the east. I think out west if a drumline warmed up in someone's yard the police would be summoned...
  17. OC drumline beat Troop in Erie! Way to go guys!!! I'm sure some eyebrows are being raised over that one. Brass scores seem a little off tonight but all in all, great job!
  18. OC's Erie step-off is in about 15 minutes. OC breaks breaks 80 tonight or at least 79.
  19. Wow I just watched the run from Charleston and I have to say, to my eye, things are starting to clean up, esp. in the opener. The show as a whole has taken on more character and is more evocative. What a dynamo! The crowd response was very enthusiastic and it seems to me, OC has had to earn every bit of crowd support they've received this year. The new drill in the closer is very effective. I especially love the battery's prominence in the center of the field during a few of the latter sets. Adds visual power and stability. Go OC! Love ya!
