pooh bear
Chris - count me in - guess I better find a local liquor store in Scranton that might have "Fat Tires" - or pack another suitcase just for beers - LOL... This will be FUN!
Geoff
I think to be fair in this competiton, the same horn should be used by all competitors. Might I suggest a 2 valve silver King?? That horn offers no resistance at all. I love it.
pooh bear
2 valve silver King I think I have one of those in my closet... Picked it up from the Blue Knights - gave one to Kenny Norman also. Love that Ziggy horn - I can remember when we got new ones in 1981 (plastic wrap and all) and Wayne saying "guard those horns with your life" - LOL. What's a drum corps horn without a few dents and the finish rubbing off. I think I'll stay with my 3 valve Kanstul - it's only 3 years old now - just breaking it in. We want to be FAIR!!?!! ]:-) It's up to the participants. Wouldn't this give an unfair advantage to the King players?
DevsBari02
Man, I have heard stories about those two-valve Kings. The loudest marching horn I have played was a 3-valve Kanstul. ####, that horn was loud! I think the new baritones we are getting will break that threshold, however. Geoff
The 2 Valve King, quite honestly, is probably my favorite horn ever played. It has such a nice, relaxed feel to it, both in terms of playability and carry. The balance on the horn is wonderful. And man, it is so easy to peel paint with those things. God love that horn. If anyone would be willing to sell, or depart with one they may have lying around, please let me know.

Geoff - It is very strange seeing a PR dude that likes King horns - didn't you guys blow on DEG/Dynasty in your days? I know there are some 2v laying in the back of the Blue Knights warehouse - they need lots of TLC. I'll talk to Mark Arnold and see if he wants to sell some of them - #### they are just collecting dust.

strutta
Just curious: What note do you think will project the loudest out of a baritone? Is there an ideal note that one should play for maximum volume or would the note vary by player? There's got to be some science to it. For example, a very high note on soprano can be heard over almost anything. I'm assuming that's due to it's pitch not it's volume. As a soprano player, I would imagine the maximum decibels would be achieved in the mid range around a 'G' or an 'A' below high C. (I may be wrong but I thought I heard that back in the day.) Does this hold for Baritones? If so what note/range? Lastly, is it louder if your viking drunk (or do you just think it is)? %-) :yikes: %-) :yikes: %-)
