N.E. Brigand
I think the big question is: where will Spartans fall in the mix?
N.E. Brigand
My prediction: 1. Music City 63.50 2. Legends 62.00 3. Spartans 59.50 4. Southwind 58.00 5. Louisiana Stars 57.00 6. Heat Wave 54.50 7. Les Stentors 45.00 Stentors' first show is about a week earlier than last year, when they opened with 48.20. On the one hand, that inclines me to expect a lower starting score this year. That said, going to the trouble of kicking off early, and traveling all the way from Sherbrooke to Powhatan to do so, suggests maybe they felt they'd be in stronger shape. Last year, Spartans had four shows around Indpendence Day; this year only two. But last year, there were then nearly three weeks before they competed again; this year, only two. Meanwhile, looking back at this weekend's scores, I have a hard time believing that Gold (63.25 on 7/16) is really ahead of Music City (62.85 on 7/15). Last year Gold was 6 pts. back of BDB at Bellflower, but 10 pts. back in O.C. prelims, 11 pts. back in O.C. finals, and 15 pts. back in W.C. prelims. This year Gold is 7 pts. back as of Bellflower. On the other hand, last year at this time, BDB scored 5 pts. lower than this year at Bellflower, while Music City and Legends were 2-3 pts. lower than now. Given that BDB ended up with a score above 82, maybe the judges are subconsciously self-correcting this year. Should be interesting to see where this goes!
N.E. Brigand
Radar shows storms in the vicinity, though not moving toward Powhatan just now.
N.E. Brigand
Looks closer now. Wouldn't be surprised if there was a delay. Small, slow-moving storm just to the west and north. Just noticed the unusual performance order. I guess Stentors get to go on after Southwind and Heat Wave because those two corps weren't at championships last year. RetiredMusTeach
Just saw on Facebook that the show was rained out.

N.E. Brigand
Spartans haven't updated their Twitter feed since last year. That's odd. But I see on their Facebook page that some of the corps apparently played in the gym for fans.

Yes, I saw a 1 minute video that someone posted of Music City playing in the gym and a member said they performed a standstill. Don't know if all the corps participated or not. cmchandler
Southwind performed on the field, and I think several other corps got in full performances as well before they called the show. Edited July 18, 2017 by cmchandler
