taters Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Looking at how well BDB did in the semis and knowing the BDA certainly has a shot at the title again this year. I am set two wondering has there ever been another time when a corps has had two champions in two different classes within the same year? I would also like to point out ( and for obvious reasons I am sure) I think this speaks volumes of the BD Organization especially considering some of the mounting challenges they are facing which include transportation costs, competition to their main source of revenue (bingo), as well as continuing legislative battles to limit the scope of their fund raising within California. I don't think it's ever happened. I think SCV Cadets made Quarterfinals in 1993 - SCV placed 7th that year. SCV Cadets won Div. II in 2000, and made Div. I semi finals - SCV placed 4th that year. I think that's the closest anyone has come. Of course, leave it to BD to challenge that accomplishment (though I doubt the Open Champion would crack to top 17 this year, even if they had the chance)! brown55061 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Interesting!! Never thought about that. But isnt it obvious that a large majority of people go to the devils for their last season to age out? I mean if their organization gets the best recruiting and a good staff they will always be hard to beat. You are only as good as your weakest player. I have not seen the devils in person but everyone I know still has their jaw hanging open so it must be spectacular. I know its close at the top but the devils are finishers, they have done it the last 20 years. If they are not in 1st after quarters they will not win. They max out their show every night so what they score is as good as its going to get. UNLESS someone else falters this will be a double DBD organization win, also a 1st for the activity. :) Quote

The wouldn't...Open class sheets are different from World class....10-15 points different on average. Plus an Open show -- even one with as many pepple as BDB has this year -- is generally constructed differently from a World class show...the prime purpose of BDB is to get people ready to possibly march BDA, after all. BTW...I see you're at Garfield HS....when I ran Nightfire in 96, most of the members CAME from GHS!! You aren't a Kennedy HS (Granada Hills) alum by any chance, are you? Quote
alto92 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 (edited) Weren't the Div. II sheets similar in relationship to the Div. I sheets back in 2000 as they are today? SCVC made a push into the top 17 with a show designed for younger kids and Div. II sheets. Pretty impressive, I think. The great Harold Manyweather sent those kids your way. I've been here 3 fulls years now - it's been 6 years since he retired - and in some ways, I still operate under the man's shadow. I'm a Van Nuys HS alum. c/o 2000! taters Posted August 7, 2008 Author Posted August 7, 2008 N G T HNot going to happen... Well it definitely could be a reality Quote
EuphCub Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 sigh. god, you really just can't help yourself can you. sometimes I wish you'd do the rest of us a favor and keep your moronic thoughts to yourself. On topic. Would be very cool if it did happen. There was a comment made about how no open class could crack top 17 this year. I don't know. BDB is pretty #### good. So is SCV Cadets, Jersey Surf, etc. Best of luck to BDB and BDA. By the way: What would you call The Cadets feeder corps. The Cadet Cadets? I beleive they were called the Crossmen. Thank god they got out of that. Quote

Ben Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 All right, let's cool it. There is some good conversation going on here, don't ruin it for the rest. Quote
