FTNK Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 DCI has posted a list of the top 5 downloads on their website. I think it is pretty interesting. The biggest thing to note is that out of the top 5 Legacy collection downloads (1972-2007) only one is not from 2007. Also, in the top 5 video performance downloads, only one (1989 Vanguard) is not from the 2000s. These Fan Network downloads cost money, so maybe this goes against people saying that the "Legacy" fans are the ones that actually spend money on the activity? It's not like older fans don't buy the recent shows, but a lot of people have argued here on DCP that "modern" drum corps turns longtime fans off and they presumably don't want to download the performances. Just throwing it out there as a possibility. Quote
bawker Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 . . .or, the fact that most legacy fans already have all the previous years recordings through CD's/tapes. It is interesting how 89 Vanguard always sneaks into every "most _____" list, though. Also, of note that Carolina Crown and Phantom Regiments shows were the top sellers for 2008; that kind of follows along with DCP sentiment over last season. Quote
FTNK Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 (edited) How about Phantom Regiment? Most downloaded audio from 2008 (which is pretty obvious to see why; they were champions and their show was pretty kick ### musically), 2nd and 5th most downloaded of the legacy corps audio, and 2nd most downloaded video. I'm predicting that 2008 Phantom will become the most downloaded show ever when it is put up after next season. It's such a historic show in terms of Phantom winning a solo title, and it has been hyped a lot (not necessarily saying the hype isn't deserved). Edited January 7, 2009 by FTNK Quote
Buick Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 hmm, that is very interesting. I would guess that possibly there are more legacy fans that aren't as tech savvy as fans today, so the legacy fans buy the dvd's and the newer fans purchase the v/apd's for their iPods and such. Quote

JimF-LowBari Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 (edited) Can't see the list from work.... Guessing anyone who wants the older shows already has them. Upgraded my old stuff from vinyl to CD so why download? Suspect the list is skewed to be higher for the years DCI had the download option availible. IOW - people bought download instead of CD/DVD. What year did DCI bring out the download option and what is the cost difference? Edit after reading Hansbari: Also guessing the older fans would rather see the shows on a larger screen TV and thru speakers everyone in the family can watch/listen. Using iPod would be a waste in my house as we both enjoy music (including corps) going thru the house. Edited January 7, 2009 by JimF-3rdBari Quote
PCSoprano9702 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 If you have roommates, you download. If you own your own big screen, you buy dvds. Exceptions: Those with HTPCs, but they are statistically insignificant. The people who were downloading 89 Vangard wanted to knoe what DCI was like when they were born. Quote
bawker Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Exceptions: Those with HTPCs, but they are statistically insignificant. Oh, you wound me at the core, sir. . . How else am I gonna watch the Fan Network webcasts in all their glory on a 50 inch screen? Quote

Dude, 1989 SCV has been on just about every "top download" or "best show" type of poll that DCI has ever done. That show just seems to cut across the generations. Will be interesting to see if any show can knock it off these lists!! Quote
CSGreen Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I am really curious what the top Open Class Downloads were Quote
