Last time I saw this show was in Akron. WOW what an improvement from 3 weeks ago. I'm not into it yet, but after seeing it in the theatre I was left with a very bad taste.

I think that since Mad World they've tried to do too much during the pre-show and it takes away from the actual judged show. They're too long and I lose interest before the show actually starts!

Depending on the kind of brownie you might understand certain shows better

I see SCV has altered their Encore setup to the Regiment "concert arc". But with Tubas in the back and looks like mellos in the front.

I hate encores where they just play the show music as a standstill.

The euphoniums are probably the best marching euphs out there in terms of getting what you pay for. Ergonomically they balance really well, and hold easily (minus the thumb ring and lyre holder on the 3rd valve slide) In 09 we got new 3rd valve slides mid season that had no lyre holders then in '10 the new horns had them again. They are a very easy blow, a little bit more resistance than the kings but it's allows for a little more control at the upper dynamics at the loss of that really huge meaty sound IMO. Pitch is superb, only had to trigger a few notes in the staff and that depended on what part of the chord I was on. They added lots of bracing to them after 09 to make them more durable. I couldn't tell you how many broken euphs we had in 09. As for the others, the Tubas get a GREAT dark luscious sound that I love. One of the heavier marching tubas out there, but it makes for a really dense core in the sound I think. I still don't understand WHY any company (not just Jupiter) would make a marching baritone that is small shank. If they made the baris large shank they would be fantastic. The high brass has the most room to improve, especially in terms of openness/resistance and how free blowing they are. I vaguely remember pitch problems in the low range of the mellos, but that might be something that all mellos have a problem with. Are they better horns out there. Yes. But I would take a drum corps on Jupiters than no drum corps at all. It would be a shame to lose any corps because they couldn't afford a set for horns. So Kudos to Jupiter for providing corps with quality equipment at an affordable price. PR 09-11

The original section features (starting with the tubas, ending with the trumpets) at the beginning of the closer was taken from The Morning Dance originally. Partway through the season JD rewrote the features to sound more "conflicting". Before the features were more playful than angry. These changes occurred while we were in NM, so listen to some pre season recordings (concert in the park) to hear how they used to be. The rewrites were mostly originally written by JD than based off of what Prokofiev wrote. You can hear Morning Dance in the pit parts that occur right at the beginning of the closer. I think what you said and this sums up the sections we used from the Prokofiev R&J.

04 was just a stellar year for brass playing. Cavies and BD the obvious choices for this year, both stellar shows. A show that often falls in the cracks is 04 Phantom. The runs and technique in this show wile on the move is outstanding. For example the euphoniums lick after the end of the intro and the trumpet runs that follow. I think the only time a section stands and plays a lick is the (ridiculous!) trumpet feature after the drum break. They were making much better overall sounds this year compared to 03, much more control with a lot of volume. Although yes I am biased, when it comes to comparisons I try to be as objective as I can. I felt when it comes to brass technique (especially while on the move as opposed to standing for a feature) this show deserves to be mentioned. And even an honorable mention for 09 PR, another pretty technical horn book.

Start running, at least a mile a day, preferably more. Wouldn't be a bad idea to work out either, especially legs, weak ankles/knees lead to injury when you get thrown into drill.

I'll definitely be reading it this summer on my iPhone on the bus. Never read DCW before except for when I marched all-age and could read it during the week.

I've heard the opener as well. Great writing and an even more challenging horn book than you would normally hear from them! I expect great things for BK this summer and can't wait to see it.

You should triple check, because Phantom definitely marched 80 brass in 2009. Check the block near the end of the show, A full 8x10 block.

The show would be perfect within the first 24 hours of move-ins.....or else.

When we would do push-ups for an individual who made a mistake the staff had us say "Thank you ________!" as we did push ups. There were certain individuals who I got to thank on a daily basis for a while. But they soon get their act straight after being humiliated like that even just a few times.

SICK job dude. I marched PR 09,10 euph. loved the solo, always made sure that after a show if i got a chance to see you guys I'd make sure to listen to your solo. You were nails every time I heard it. Congrats man, great show this summer! Loved the effects added to it. My favorite moment of any show this year (aside from my corps :p)

I got one, and filled it out entirely. It was very through and included questions that the answers to could really benefit DCI I think. I listed DCP as my main source of information for drum corps . And RAMD was even one of the answers, which was surprising to say the least. I would encourage any marching member to take the time to fill it out.

Ibuprofen, especially for low brass folks like myself. It's like candy.

I started marching DCA corps in 07. Had 2 years to "train" then went to a top 10 Junior corps in 09, and will age out in 2011. I see DCA as for the die hard marchers that want to keep marching at a high level of excellence. As well as for the people who want to march DCI at some point. I went to audition for Cadets in 07 and Gino told me to go to Buccaneers to get started. So if a great teacher like Gino approves of DCA corps then that says a lot for DCA. Obviously it's still not near the level of excellence that DCI reaches, but given the time restraints on the corps, it's pretty amazing what some of the top level corps are putting out on the field. I plan on taking a couple summers off after aging out then getting back into DCA. DCA is where I started, and as another poster said that I marched with in 07 said, I wouldn't be in DCI without having marched DCA.
