I realize that it is a bit early but does anyone have any information as to when the next Buglers Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is? My friend Riggie Laus would like to attend as it will probably be his last time being able to. If someone would be kind enough to pass along what ever information is available I'm sure that Riggie would greatly appreciate it.

HOO HAA ... talk about a full day to let off some steam! ... any other corps banquets coming up? ... fill in the dates ... "

Mike, it will all take place at the Holiday Inn, so it's one stop shopping and there is a discounted room rate for BHOF members......glad to hear that Riggie would like to make it.

What a wonderful group....

special congrats to my good friend Jeff Gibbons.... and the ageless master Mr. Ken Norman... well done old friend...

and a fantastic shout out to the voters for not overlooking Dom Del Ra... just one of my favorite all time people in this business... Mellophone Power! I know his family monitors this - it's a great tribute to a great man... it was a privilege working under him in Brigadiers 1971.

For those who don't know, he invented the Mellophone.

For those who don't know, he invented the Mellophone.

Yes he did, the marching mellophone. Here is part of Dom's bio from World Drum Corps HOF, describing his invention that went on to thousands of future players. Dom was inducted into the WDCHOF in 1986.

"The Key of G Mellophone Bugle was made to his specifications by the Whaley-Royce Ltd. of Canada in 1963/64 and was used on the field for the first time in 1964. Dominick wanted an instrument that could produce the sound of a French horn in a middle-soprano register. He tried something with the Interstatesmen, playing a baritone horn with a soprano mouthpiece at the end of a show in 1963. Then he put together, using the body of a cornet, a large metal funnel, copper tubing and a valve /rotor from a soprano horn, the prototype, G Mellophone bugle. He spoke with a Whaley-Royce representative giving them the specifications and the Mellophone G Bugle was born. The Interstatesmen and the Marksmen were the first corps to get the Mellophone and he was able to complete his unique sound."

The Mellophone, now one of the lushest voices in drum corps.
