  1. I'll second this. One thing I absolutely cannot stand in drum corps lately is corps that give you this big cerebral description about how the corps will be performing a musical interpretation of the deepest inner thoughts of goldfish or whatever their show concept is that year. Some corps are more guilty of it that others. Blue Devils, Carolina Crown, Bluecoats, etc. I remember a video Crown posted a few years ago in January that was an interview with the design staff supposedly describing their show. What it really was was the 4 of them saying basically nothing, giggling, and patting each other on the back about how clever they all are. It was like the show announcement was some sort of really funny inside joke. I couldn't give less of a #### about your show poster and libretto and what it all means. 14 year-old saxophone players care. Thanks Scouts for keeping it simple and just telling us what your going to play.

  2. I am looking forward to Teal's show this year and every year after that. I pray they make 12 this year, it's about time that a Drum Corps who is willing to break down some barriers get in. Instead of being judged on the biases of "I hate guitars" or "Electronics kill drum corps" how about they be judged on how entertaining the show is. If it's good, let's watch it. If it stinks, it shouldn't have made 12 in the first place. People go to finals to see the best shows, and they shouldn't have to pray that Teal makes it so that they can hear them along with there other favorites.

  3. I like that they have announced an actual name of music that they'll play, rather than their poster. And, I think this will be a great fit for the Scouts. I wonder if they'll keep up playing things they have done back in the day. There is certainly a lot of good things to choose from to keep up the great shows for the next few years atleast.

  4. Though, ironically, the 77 show DID have a theme (all New York-inspired Bernstein tunes). I'm not a fan of going back to the well of the past too often, but happy to hear that they're revisiting this particular tune.

  5. no no no, and no... music judges need to stick with music...if the music suffers because the brass is doing a 5/4, penalize them for it. Music judges need to stick to the dang music..let the visual judges deal with the visual. I'd rather HEAR a brass line or a battery do some incredibly tasty licks, then have them do half or whole notes because they are covering 20 yards in 4 measures... drum corps is a musical idiom with a visual accompaniment...music > visual. <OMG....IMHO!!!)

  6. I would say (of course, this is my opinion) that BLOOOOOO basically did a BD show...they just did it in a way that was more "acceptable" to the audience... you wouldn't see the bluecoats do a show like they did in 2010 10, or even 5 years ago...Bloo wants to win, and they see what's winning, so they adapt it to their style and go with it...

  8. music selection no. pacing, flow, look at every drum break that looks like a WGI drum break....there's a lot going on out there that is VERY same from corps to corps.

  9. Grrrrr.. Wake up ya all.... DCI Offices built in downtown Indy at the same time the DCI championships are moved to Indy for 10 years equals only 1 #### thing that every one is affraid to say. TAX INCENTIVES !!!! More money to filter behind everyones back to the ( Bite my tongue hard ) G7 / G8 Super Corps, which are the only corps in DCI's eyes that deserve to stay in business.....

  15. Heh, you nailed it! I thought the drum breaks were all copying BD, but it's WGI that's influencing DCI. I don't know if that's good or bad.

  16. Of course, I know it was edited, Rhapsody is a 15 minute long piece. However, it still retained the essence of the work unlike what the Devils did to Channel One Suite in 2002.
