  1. BD '00. I didn't like it because they were beating an incredible Cavalier's show. Then I didn't like it because they were beating an amazing SCV show. In retrospect, they finished where they should have (SCV was dirty, dirty, dirty!) and I wish I had appreciated it when I saw it live. On DVD/CD, it quickly became one of my favorite BD shows of all time!
  2. Or "Wez in yur olimpiks, tryin to plae ovur bob costass!" ^0^
  3. Excellent post! I've been wondering the same thing myself. I don't know what DCI gets out of their deal with Jolesch, but if they would open up the market and take control of it themselves, they could have a much larger pool of photos to choose from. I envision a system that allows them to accept and sort photos from many photographers and post them for sale. Any markup on the prints would then be split between DCI and the photographer.
  4. Quit it! Now I might buy this thing afterall!
  5. we appreciate your efforts. :) Although the topic is for things to do in the immediate LA area, for those who are coming early or staying late, I definitely recommend a drive to Joshua Tree National park. It may be hot this time of year, but it sure is beautiful. I was there in late February (temperature in the 70s/80s) and loved it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/boileraae/tag...eenationalpark/
  6. Yeah, I was surprised by the guard scores as well. 2 weeks ago I wouldn't have been, but after the beating SCV took in Murfreesboro and Atlanta, it was definitely unexpected.
  7. I don't think so. The DCI website stopped taking reservations on July 9th I believe. I imagine unused rooms were then opened back up to the public.
  8. That's where I am Thursday-Saturday night at the DCI discounted rate of $115. ^OO^ I sure hope DCI announces their plans for ticket sales soon. My plan was to spend Wednesday night on the ocean in Santa Monica (although the Hotel Oceana looks real nice, I'm quickly running out of money to spend on accommodations!). If we have to stand in line 1st thing in the morning, I might have to find something a little bit closer. :(
  9. I'm with Matt..... Now if they offered these as video performance downloads, for say $3 each, I'd probably go for at least several.
  10. What's funny is that people look at me like when I tell them I'll be there a week and a half and don't have enough time to do everything I want to do. I'll definitely be back. B)
  11. My impression from seeing them in Columbus last week was that they were not yet comfortable enough with the show to "sell" it. They were performing well but didn't have the intensity and passion that BD had that night. This was reflected in their low GE scores (Music). However, what's troubling now is that with everyone competing together, SCV is coming in 6th and 7th in performance captions when they were doing quite well in them earlier in the season (Colorguard specifically). But, there is still 4 weeks to go with 4 points between them and the lead pack. I'm not too concerned yet. I'm cautiously optimistic that this corps is like the '97 corps that bit off a lot at the beginning of the season, was 4 points back with 4 weeks to go, and ultimately tied for 1st at Quarterfinals. Even last year they didn't click until the last 2 weeks of the season. They were behind Crown and 4 points behind Bluecoats in Atlanta on July 29th. By Semi-Finals they were less than a 1/10th from 4th place. Long story short..... The season isn't over yet! B)
  12. I just posted about 30,000 words worth of commentary from the show in Columbus, OH. B) Have a look (click on the picture below...).
  13. Oh that's where I'll be..... what's filling my itinerary is photography. I'll be looking for those perfect shots to add to my gallery (see link in sig). ;)
  14. Sunday night I'm in Monterey. Monday night I'm staying at Lucia Lodge on the Big Sur cliffs. Tuesday is the Hearst Castle on the way to Santa Barbara. Wednesday I'll be finally pulling into the LA area. Where I stay though depends on what DCI decides to do with ticket sales for next year. If we need to show up in person then I'll try and be out near Pasadena. I hope it's like last year though (mail order only) so I can spend another night close to the water. (Probably Santa Monica since I'll be visiting The Getty. Wanted to check out the Getty in Malibu, but was dismayed to hear it's not open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays - the best days for me to make it there.)
  15. 2 hours max. Never thought Fort Wayne would be a tourist destination! :)
  16. I'm flying in and out of SFO and going to the show at Stanford before making a slow journey down Hwy 1. I think my only chance to see the sequoias is if i drove up and back on a show day (not gonna happen at that distance) or if I did it Sunday on the way back up to SFO. I think I'll do it right and make another trip. :) Thanks for the info though.
  17. Tough call between PR '96 and SCV '99. Had to go with PR '96 just because I felt they had the program to win but looked like they were down and out. Then, WHAM! I'd put Cavaliers '95 and Star '91 battling it out for 3rd and 4th.
  18. Casa D'Angelo? best italian food in Fort Wayne, IMO. they now have 5 locations i think. one in the central city south of downtown (that's near where i grew up so i went there the most). now they have 3 more on the north side and one out in the southwest suburbs. back on topic! how far of a trip is it to Sequoia National Forest? is that a day trip or an overnight trip from Pasadena? i know PeeWee's original intent was to keep this LA County based..... but i'm curious if i can squeeze it into my 11 day itinerary. i don't have a good grasp of the western states where i can easily tell how long it would take to drive a certain distance. i suspect i may have to do the inland national parks on a seperate trip.
  19. Thanks George! I wasn't #1 (and shouldn't be) but #11 in this fantastically large creation of yours feels good. No offense to the newbies #12 and up.....
  20. What??? We have flat ground down to a science! You sure you don't want to come check that out? :P Although, I'd be lying if I didn't tell you there are modest hills south of Indy (and in the lake country in NE Indiana). and by modest hills, i mean not quite flat. For me, California is one of my most favorite places to vacation. The diversity in land is incredible (oceans, beaches, cliffs, mountains, desert, etc., etc.).
  21. I've taken several friends to shows in the past and they've enjoyed going. When I suggest we watch some shows on DVD they shun me. ! What????? They say, "It sucks and it's definitely not as cool as watching live." I tell them, "Yeah, but watching the DVD invokes the feelings you had when you watched it live." They say, "Ehhhhhh, not so much." This is the truth. And they're right. I watch my DVDs less every year because I just don't get the same thrill like I used to and it just doesn't compare to the live shows. However, I saw BD on "YouTube" and again on the pay-per-view stream from Kzoo and I think that really allowed me to enjoy the show in Columbus even more than I would have. There's so much going on in shows now days that just about any show you see for the first time will quickly fade into the deep recesses of your mind. If you're able to establish the outline of the show beforehand, you can really fill the gaps and create a lasting impression when you see the corps live!
