  1. Where are Boston Crusaders, Crossmen, et al? How was it decided who got to perform here?
  2. Again, watch or listen to drum corps before 2012. There are plenty of unamped flugelhorn solos that are chill-inducing and perfectly audible.
  3. It's possible that it's a conscious decision on DCI's part, to basically explicitly assure that the shows are not designed to be just listed to as audio. A lot of the show designs honestly don't work that way anymore; it's accepted that the music can take a backseat to the drill or theme (the music nowadays is mostly "used" rather than "presented"). So I guess it does make less sense to offer audio recordings than it did in 2005. But there are shows like Bluecoats this year that have a perfectly good '90s-style music book that I'd love to jam to over headphones.
  4. Any way I can purchase or download high-quality audio recordings of this season's shows while it's in progress? I remember being able to this in 2005, but can't figure out a way now. Thanks in advance!
  5. That synth bass on the last chord of the Cadets show. Just...no. Someone on staff is inexplicably convinced that sounds good. Who, and why? They deserve to be in 7th for that alone.
  6. How were the vocals different in San Antonio?
  7. Imagine this but with a trumpet/mellophone soloist for the melody in the ballad. Do you think the show would work better? Worse?
  8. What's Scott Stewart up to now? Just totally done with (junior) drum corps? Could there every be a junior drum corps activity again that Scott Stewart would be interested in?
  9. Bring back the 1988-2002 uniform for 2018.
  10. I'd love to see a drum corps performed in this uniform. It's no longer the Cadets'. Who wants to take it?
  11. If we can all agree on something like this........why not present something like this for their 2018 program? Judging concerns? What their doing now isn't working either in that regard. So what do they have to lose?
  12. Interesting to hear the judge still call them sopranos and contras. Wonder how long that stuck around among that community. It's not every day you get to hear a new recording of Cadets 2000 (this makes the fourth one I know of floating around, that I've been able to find over the past 12 years. Haven't been able to find quarters or semis either.) Best drum corps show. Would love to see them return to a show design like this for next year and see how it would do. Why not?
  13. Drum corps as a musical medium stopped being about the deliberately constrained and intentional instrumentation once band instruments were allowed in 2000. At this point I've basically accepted that, as long as what the corps does is effective, whether or not something is acoustic is such a foreign concept to concern itself with. Drum corps will only become more "anything goes," not less. That's what the member corps have chosen in terms of direction.
  14. I've always wanted to see an early season recording of this show.
  15. From Reddit: "Both have pedals. Rachel's has the 'wah' effect on it, Alan's is a sustain pedal."
  16. You'd be surprised. In a large number of cases it's just the few famous shows everyone will always talk about (SCV 1989 and the like).
  17. You...you have seen drum corps pre-2004 right?
  18. A lot of things need to come back. But because they're each tied to a span of several years, re-introducing them wouldn't mean "progress." Whether or not that progress is actually justified or not. As long as it's different from the past, apparently!
