  1. Cool, thanks! So if Vanderkolff was involved in the 1993 drill design, he's obviously no joke. That show would very easily hold up today almost 20 years later. He's also one of the top program designers in WGI, his work with the SCV WG has been great. They've alternated between first and second place in Ind World Class the last 4 years. Bluecoats will be fine and probably a better fit for him than Madison was.
  2. Am I correct in saying that Jonathan Vanderkoff wrote the drill for Star of Indiana in 1993? Maybe possibly 1992 also? I believe 1991 was Zingali's last season writing.
  3. Does anyone know what music Beyer High School used in 2004, 2005, and 2006? I'm a sucker for minimilism! Also, was this where Mark Metzger taught at before he took over at James Logan? If so, anyone know how long he was there for? If not, anyone know who did teach there? Thanks!
  4. Carmel's not coming either?! Do you mean Avon? I see Carmel is still registered. I guess it took a few years, but the economy has really hit these guards now.
  5. With the low number of championship registrations this year, what does this mean for the prelim / semis / finals format? Like will they take everyone into finals in Scholastic World if they are at 15 units or less? Will there be a prelims / semis / finals format for the World and Open classes if the entries stay around the current number? I know this used to be determined by the amount of units in each class. Has anyone heard about guards such as James Logan HS, Mission Viejo HS, Seminole HS, Rancho Bernardo, or Americas HS? Those groups all competed in Sch World last year but aren't registered. I know Avon is not doing anything WGI related. Is NorthEast Ind planning on coming back out?
  6. Here are some of my favorites in year order.... Cadets 87 Star 91 Cavaliers 91 Star 93 Cadets 93 Phantom 93 SCV 97 Cadets 98 Cavaliers 01 Cavaliers 02 Blue Devils 03 SCV 04 Phantom 11 Cadets 11 Other than the genius of Zingali and Brubaker, my favorites were also Gaines and Sacktig. I do think that Jay Murphy is underrated. He may not be exciting but he has continually set standards in staging. To me the most underrated designer though is Jamey Thompson. I absolutely loved his work this past season.
  7. Hands down one of the greatest ever who changed the game and pushed the activity. He is also one of the nicest people you could ever meet. His work is a big influence and inspiration to me. I hope to see him again on the DCI scene sometime.
  8. I know John Brazale was there for many years and then Jamie Thompson has written for a good amount of 2000s, but who has written for them over the years between? This is what I do know... John Brazale ? to 92 Tony Hall 93 to 94 Johnny Sanchez ? Jamie Thompson 05? to 07 Nick Scotella 08 to 09 Myron Rosander 10 Jamie Thompson 11 Can anyone fill in the blanks?
  9. Why is the plan "idiotic"? From a staff aspect it's not a big deal, and from a financial aspect it makes sense. And why does everything have to be a conspiracy?
  10. I have no problem with cutting down the panel for June if it means saving money. Remember, not only do they save money on judges fees, they save on flights and hotels as well. It adds up. I do think it's weird that this year the panels are inconsistant in terms of what's being judged show to show. I would like it better if it were just the upstairs judges, Vis GE and Ens, and Music GE and Ens for June. As a staff, do you really need a field performance judge to tell you that you're dirty in June? I think feedback on design, communication, and performance from an ensemble cohesiveness standpoint is more important in June. Keep in mind it's only 2 weeks or so of the season before the full panels come in, and less time than that for some corps.
  11. You took the words right out of my mouth with both of those responses. I agree completely with you! And yes, guard is judged from the box. I never understood why there was a percussion performance judge at the early season shows but not a performance judge for brass, visual, or guard. And please don't tell me cause one section is stronger early or one section is more important. I understand the reason for cutting judges early on was for financial considerations, but why have a percussion judge but not one for any other section? If I recall correctly, Open class only shows early on just have Visual Ens and GE, and Music Ens and GE, no percussion.
  12. Cool, thanks! I always wondered that. I knew Todd Ryan was the caption head in 88 when they won but I didn't know he also wrote the drill that year.
  13. Who wrote Madison's drill in the late 80s and throughout the 90s?
  14. Just found that Pete Weber wrote for Kennesaw Mountain this past season.
  15. Who are the drill writers for the top 12 bands at this past year's BOA Grand Nationals? I know some but not all. Please fill in the blank! Avon - Is it still Leon May? Broken Arrow - LD Bell - used to be Myron Rosander but don't think so anymore..... Tarpon Springs - Kevin Ford Carmel - Michael Gaines Kennesaw Mountain - Michael Gaines also? not sure... Marion Catholic - Greg Bimm Lawrence Central - Matt James Stephen F Austin - Mitch Rogers I think? Cedar Park - Union - Center Grove -
  16. I've never complained about OC or Div 2/3 being treated as second class, you can check. These are my first posts on the issue. My issue is not the amount of rounds they get to perform with the WC, it's about the opportunity to achieve finalist status in Open Class, or in this case lack there of.
  17. As I've said before, it's riduculous that there is only 1 round instead of a prelims and finals for Open Class.
  18. I agree you don't need a prelims and semifinals. But a prelims and finals would be nice, so those kids who would make finals can actually say they made finals.
  19. There has been movement each of the last few years, so that's not completely true. May not have been big movement, but a corps did win a few years ago after coming in 2nd in prelims and semis, and there has been movement in other spots as well. That same philosophy can be used with World Class. Why have 3 rounds if there isn't much movement between them? The point is it's about being able to say you were a DCI Finalist in your class, and having the experience of achieving that status and being able to call yourself a finalist. It affects all those kids and corps who would have been able to say they were a finalist and now can't.
  20. Is it me, or did DCI Open Class just lose two rounds of competition and the opportunity to become an Open Class Finalist? And for what, a chance to perform in World Class Quarterfinals instead? Yeah, great......... I marched and taught at a corps that is a multiple time Open Class / Div 2&3 Finalist, and let me tell you that it makes a huge difference when you're able to say that you are a finalist. One of my biggest memories in drum corps was making Division 3 finals my rookie year of drum corps. I still have my finalist medal hanging up at home 12 years later. Open Class corps members will now not be able to achieve or experience that, which is a shame. I would have no problem with this system if Open Class had a Prelims / Finals format. The opportunity to perform in World Class Quarterfinals is great AS LONG AS there is still a Prelims / Finals format in Open Class. I'm not even asking for the current 3 day tournament in Open Class. With the amount of Open Class corps present, 2 rounds is fine, but to deny those kids the opportunity to call themselves a Finalist within their class is not acceptable. I am shocked that there are people involved in Open Class that support this. I think you are looking at what you gained without thinking about what you sacrificed along the way. In essense, Open Class took two steps back to take one forward. This is just the next step in eliminating the class all together. I hope those of you involved in Open Class realize this as such and make your voices heard.

  22. Does anyone happen to have the prelims schedule with performance times? I believe DCA only has the order of appearance one their site. Thanks!
