  1. the minute that sealed my love for drum corps, BD 2000 (a show that gets WAY less attention than it deserves)
  2. most recently, and available to us all... Sully commentating during the BK show at San Antonio for that matter, anything involving sylvester and a microphone
  3. I doubt they'd keep it past this show for the sake of the VPDs
  4. Did you see them live? ...and I wouldn't put those other 2 in the same volume category as Crown anymore
  5. I'll be speaking to him in person soon and have tons of footage after I'm done volunteering. Thanks.
  6. Bad Anybody else notice the audio on the SCV video from Houston? 2:41 random music that clearly doesn't go with SCV 6:45 something happens and the whole pitch of the video sinks about a half step 7:45-7:56 there's a pop and then what sounds like somebody accidentally resting on a synth (but not from their pit) Good 11:10 when they hit the hold, please tell me that's the synth using a (low) brass patch, or else that's an achievement of intonation at a very loud volume that i haven't heard since Cavies 2002
  7. somewhat disappointing that the only way they get media on fan network is when somebody (DCI) else does it for them
  8. somehow, i don't think this is a big chunk of the community yet
  9. I made this just to see what the consensus is. For me, 2000 is a tough year to beat (especially that BD show). Honorable mentions (2006, 2004). What makes the year you picked the best one for you? (Had to exclude the 70s due to the 3 question limit.)
  10. a wise man once said "you compete at rehearsal; you perform at shows"
  11. I wouldn't count Cavies out with Shanefield in the mix this year. Not a whole lot of talk on their status other than its not "up to par". I think this show has lots of potential still...
  12. Yeah, but that's irrelevant. If you have access to the FanNetwork, anybody could rip the audio off of ANY video or ANY recording. So, they should just post pictures then? Some of us choose not to because that's stealing from the activity we love. If they're already making the APDs, why not just fuse them with the video? APDs and VPDs are meant to be portable or kept with you regardless of your subscription. The videos I want to watch on FanNetwork aren't.
  13. Anybody have a picture of the pose the dude is hitting? Can't really tell from the box in all these DCI videos...
  14. Yeah, the kind of goosebumps I can only get from ... well, SCV 89 I'm telling you, they could make a KILLING if they auctioned off that spot in the show every night...
  15. So, I watched the Stanford webcast and was greatly pleased with the quality. But, the On Demand videos from that show sound like they were taken from somebody's cell phone (AGAIN). What's the deal?! The webcast feed was never slow, so they shouldn't have had to bump the quality down to make it more accessible. I can go to YouTube and find videos that sound that bad, but I'm paying (I believe) for better quality--especially in the videos. (This is not directed towards APDs, they sound great to me.)
  16. First of all, that company front ... sweet jesus. Second, how would you like to be the dude striking the pose at that moment? I can't imagine...
  17. Not only was it the right thing to do, but it's moments like those that the members on either side of the arc will treasure the most. Takes me back to the Spirit & Crossmen days...
  18. Aside from whether or not they can pull it off, I am BEYOND pleased with SCV doing Ballet for Martha so straightforward. This show makes it very easy to appreciate drum corps for what it is. Don't get me wrong, I like a good "thinking" show every once in a while, but there's usually not much of a spectrum (don't over-analyze that word, I know each show is different). To me, how they treat the music, their nuance and the specific touches they added make it stand out on its own accord; regardless of how similar the arrangement is to '87 Garfield. The show is the same, but the show is different. Not many of the shows this early let me grab onto and enjoy completely, but this show does. We usually get so tired of remakes and songs that are commonly done, except when they're done well. This is one of those rare times. I think I've gone on enough about this. I only just watched it on Fan Network and I simply felt different about how I was enjoying a show I thought was going to be mundane or too different. Kudos to the entire SCV team, members especially.
  19. Negative on the "best in the business" its all subjective this all really comes back to: has she screwed your corps? or a corps you were cheering for? VS do you know her personally? And its for one of those reasons i don't like her. This is similar to peoples biases towards certain judges in the NFL. Some are better than others, but all of them get it wrong every once-in-a-while. And guaranteed one of them has screwed your team. For her caption abilities? I have no clue since I don't know her personally. But of the ones I do, like Bret Mascaro, he's an incredible visual guy and great band director too. No, he doesn't have a PhD, but PhD/DMA's don't necessarily make you a "smart" (yes, you got the degree) person. There are people that do them justice, and some that make it seem not worth the effort; and there are people who don't have them who are smarter than those that do. So throwing the degree around is irrelevant.
  20. If only they did spring training on the top of a mountain in Utah... there's as much air there as there is on the moon talk about conditioning....
