  1. For those of you putting the inevitable high brass champions in 5th - lord - think again. There is no way Bluecoats will finish lower than 4th and with a 4-day, last-minute deathcamp before this weekend's regional, look for them to clean and de-tick, big time. Don't be surprised if even more cool stuff is added to the show, too. other surprises: Crown in 4th Blue Stars make finals Troop in 17th
  2. Give it about 5 years after Roman retires. Not a shunt on the man, he is a class act, but he focuses on giving Pio kids a great experience while honoring years of tradition. Nothing else besides that seem to matter much to him. Thus, you won't see those characteristics rewarded with scores in today's ultra-competitive drum corps world. I do see Pioneer in the next decade having a future as a militaristic-type corps with incredible discipline and skill, much like the Navy and Marine DBC's. I guess it's the uniforms.
  3. Junior corps: Tuna casserole - iced tea to drink Senior corps: BEER
  4. Carolina Crown Bluecoats is this year's '90 Star of Indiana. There, fixed that for ya....
  5. A pantsless Steve Rondinaro shows up with a microphone and a bowl of Jello.
  6. If it was based on my heart, nails..... but I doubt DCI's number crunchers will see it that way :(
  7. No, son - you're doin' it all wrong... Looky here: Division 1 103.25 South Stars 99.95325 Phantom Brigade 92.07 Boston Colts 65.31 Dubuque Crusaders XLV.VI Blue Rock 35.26 Scouts of JSU 15.26 Spirit Wind Division 4 (all ages, 50+) -29.6 Crunchy Frog (Disclaimer: this show was judged by a 2-person panel made up of Chuck Norris and your mom)
  8. I'm wondering, do they still get the "judges" from the DATR show, or will some other ones mix their way in there?
  9. Blue Knights - Denver, CO Santa Clara Vanguard - Santa Clara, CA Bluecoats - Canton, OH Glassmen - Toledo, OH The Cadets - Allentown, PA Crossmen - San Antonio, TX Mandarins - Sacramento, CA Cascades - Seattle, WA Troopers - Casper, WY Holy crap..... Okay, what happens here?
  10. And your point? Is there a problem with that?
  11. I think Hopkins, sometime in the next decade, will push for the use of perfect robotic substitutes in case of injury of one of his "organic" participants. Eventually though, "old school" detractors will fear this could lead to an all-robotic corps trend, and thus would not be considered "drum corps", but just a glorified battlebot show with musical instruments and props.
  12. They should come in second or 3rd, because at least 3 or 4 other corps have the same level of overall excellence as the Blue Devils, and by the second week of August will be as polished, if not more so. BD's show is - dare I say it - esoteric, and that is not what they excel at. A show like the Cadets (with 50% less narration), the Bluecoats, Phantom Regiment and Carolina Crown all have winning shows with a full, melodic brass book. If I were judging, BD's GE and music rep scores would be in the back of the pack, 6th or 7th overall. When I love the Blue Devils, I love them when they burn your face off with REAL music - like many years: 1976, 1980, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999, and 2003. 2003 was the last year they played music - and they won...and they deserved to win. This year, they need to sit in 2nd or 3rd, and force their arrangers and program coordinators to reconsider musicality and linear melodics in their 2008 plans.
  13. I think if DCI created scholarship pools for EVERY corps from the money made off of apparrel, memorabilia and multimedia items, and allowed these corps to use 10-20 scholarships per corps, depending on size - then they can do things like scout high school and college bands. Then they can offer scholarship tryout invitations to outstanding students. That would help many corps retain regional talent instead of kids trying out for the corps of their dreams, a 1000 miles from home, not making it, and sitting out the summer. If they were invited to tryout for a corps scholarship and after not getting that dream spot with The Cadets, they could end up with a free-ride with a corps like Southwind, the Spartans, Memphis Sound, etc. Then every corps would be able to recruit a nucleus of high-level talent. I'd put one restriction on it. The scholarships are for rookies only. Vets should pay their way, regardless of how good they are. The purpose of this should be to take advantage of talent that would otherwise never make it to the drum corps stage.
  14. I only travel 180 miles for legend (well not this year) as I'm sure most people do.
  15. A not as-of-yet-established all-age corps in Oklahoma, affiliated with Frontier and Masquerade, as far as I know.
  16. Terrible that such a wonderful right is used in such a stupid manner. Bashing kids in other corps, the corps themselves or the activity in general only makes common sense if there is a constructively critical reason for doing so. Even then, it should be done above a 6th-grade intelligence level. Note I said should and not must. Do what you like, but if it makes you seem like an ###, that's no ones fault but your own. Come to think of it, I believe there is a woman up north who does this daily, a Ms. She-who-must-not-be-named...
  17. 1. Black Watch 2. Mello-Dears 3. Offensive Lions 4. The Thing 5. Railmen now THAT's the end of discussion. Because I say so. ^0^
  18. I don't know - my first time in helping form a new corps was pretty #### successful.
  19. Good lord - idiot Cadet haters with unneccessary comments. I hope they beat the Cavies and Blue Devils by 15 points tonight just to shut those people up.
  20. Hey, cop got a count of how much equipment other corps dropped?
