  1. That Bridgemen pic was actually from Hymn To the Last Whale.
  2. That's true. There were a bunch of (then) Open Class and Class A corps then. And there are a LOT if untold drum corps stories from the smaller corps.
  3. This is a good place to research info for your book. There are quite a few of us here.
  4. I wish you and the corps nothing but the best. Hope to see you in 2010.
  5. From one Louisiana native to another, welcome aboard!!!
  6. A BUNCH of corps played that tune and Birdland in 1979.
  7. ...on a Saturday night in some stadium in Illinois...
  8. Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral was the last tune I played in a Phantom Regiment uniform. What a great tune!
  9. To be honest, I liked the '78 Blue Stars more than I liked the '79 corps. Except for La Fiesta, I just couldn't get into it like I could the '78 show.
  10. I'm not Spartacus. I was one of those Roman soldiers who was in the battle where he was killed.
  11. Some of us had problems with those long capes then. If you marched backward doing a high mark time, like several of us did in our second tune, your heels tended to briefly snag on to the cape.
  12. At the beginning of the season, I was hoping they, at least the horns and drums, would wear the long red capes like we did. However, after seeing them perform their drill at the speeds that they do, I'm glad they didn't because those capes would have gotten in the way and caused problems. Their unis are fine just the way they are.
  13. It's John Wooten. Kenny Quick had already aged out. Scooter didn't march that year. He was on the staff. The guy on the left is (I think) Dan Wick. BTW, that big bass drum is behind John.
  14. LMAO!! Haven't heard that term since aging out.
  15. Well this 1982 Spartacus alumnus appreciates you and the appreciation you have for our show and this year's Spartacus show. From those of us who marched that show, thank you!!! Speaking of... I got to see the Regiment rehearse before the Atlanta show...WOW!!! I love this show!!! This is definitely not our Spartacus show. I like the way they tell the story and even got a little envious that they do some things we weren't allowed to (I am Spartacus!). The only spoken word we had on the field was just as we enter the field in a phalanx and reach the 50, we turn 45 degrees to the front, do a Roman Legion salute and yell "Hail!!". Then we started our marching warmup. At least this time, they don't really need a libretto to tell the story. This one's pretty easy to follow. They have a great group of kids with the right attitude. No matter where they place at DCI Finals, they have a show they will forever be proud of.
  16. It is from 1982. BTW, the center snare drummer is John Wooten.
  17. You are correct. "Regiment" is used by members, staff, management, and alumni, and "Phantom" is used by phans.
  18. I believe that's a 41" bass drum. It's definitely at least 40". It also looks like the person carrying it is Kenny Quick.
  19. I saw them rehearse today. WOW!!! I love this show!!! This is definitely not our Spartacus show nor should it be. They are still cleaning things and making improvements, but there is definitely plenty of upside to this show. There is no way they will peak before Finals. Go Regiment!!!
