  1. And to think, the only connection most corps seem to make now, is between members "hookin up".
  2. ODBC- we both kinda know where the other is from and who we're affiliated with, and I really dont understand why you always seem to be trying to push KK away from canada. I know what it used to be like, and I know what it is now, but you know that they're trying this year to get back to its canadian roots. Why can't you embrace? Maybe even help? Seems kinda stupid to me. If you don't want KK to be a candian corps, than it seems to me to be an example of why kiwanis felt it was time to merge to florida. Not enough support from the canada.
  3. Seems like I should probably step in and get this one. That member is a DCI class of 2005 Age Out from the KK pit. During the season we toyed with the idea of bringing out the saxaphone for what should have been the huge sax solo in panter, only to have our baritone player push him out of the way and do it up. Well after we worked it into the show in texas, our staff hated it. Doug wanted to use it and use big speech bubble like cards in the pit as a sort of narration, but the whole thing didn't seem to work and it got scrapped. But about a week before finals, if I remember correctly, we pulled that tenor back out and it was put into the show. It was a complete joke and that picture shows the member doing a great job. It was a huge production thing with him prepping the mouthpiece and 2 guard girls drawing as much attention to the fact that YES, WE DID HAVE A SAXAPHONE ON THE FIELD!!!! Got a decent laugh and was only used twice, at the lynn show and quarter finals. Our little joke. Glad it finally surfaced!
  4. Kiwanis is revamping last years new uniform. Last years was pretty much a prototype and some changes are being made, both that the audience will notice and maybe even more importantly, that the members will notice.
  5. uncle Fu**** was a tag ending to one of our pit warm ups. at KK
  6. well if we want to bring up the beatles, I dont remember the year but 'coats did it I do believe and KK did it in 2003. You'll just never be able to see a video of it.
  7. As was already mentioned Northern Aurora 1992 with ELP and 93 with kansas was some good stuff. I wonder when someone is going to bring back some good old ELP?! lol
  8. and not to be the jerk, but expect to look elsewhere. I have a friend trying out at glASSmen :P and they have it down to the 4 tenors fighting for 2 spots, and had quite a bass turn out as well. Thats the only one I have heard some type of numbers on, but all 3 of those corps have extremely impressive drumlines and having already missed the first camp for all 3, it would be nearly impossible to make it there, I think. Especially if they have never marched corps before, may I recommend looking to a corps either lower in div 1 such as KK or Pioneer or a div 2/3. Any drum corps is drum corps experience and is a great way to spend the summer. From there, you can always take that experience and use it towards a future audition at any corps you choose. Just my thoughts. Your nephew may be the best player in the world, but anything short of that and at this point those are 3 difficult corps to make.
  9. Not that I was there, but at least for me, everyone's forgetting to mention my favorite piece of music that's being played. Hearing the horline rip Enemy God from Scythian Suite on saturday night absolutly made my weekend!
  10. I can gurantee they hold up better than the dynastys! We had parts falling off in only a month.
  11. Being in KK for going on 4 years now, I've got to live through the border crossing experience, and being mostly from Florida, I can tell you it can be quite an adventure crossing. In 2004, they stocked the truck in Canada where it was being stored and tried to send it to us in FL. They wouldnt let it cross and that created many issues for us to set up the summer. For the most part now, we plan ahead and if I remember correctly, did not send the food truck into Canada but it met up with us in Buffalo. And as for the canadian show, it'll be great if it's a big show, but I have to be honest here. We did the "canadian open" last year which we thought was going to be a great time being the div 1 corps and the only "canadian". The crowd did not really seem to care. Anyone that was there can verify with me, but dutch boy had a lot more support than us. Maybe it'll be different this year with other div 1 corps and a much stronger canadian tie again with the corps. But hey, can't argue with a beer garden!
  12. Wow. I take back 4 negative things I've said about color guard members dedication in the past.
  13. Dutch Boy's show last year was something to the effect of old borrowed blue and new. They did a pretty good job with it the few times I saw it.
  14. Like some people have already said, just do your homework. For me, I was able to work it out with my university so that when I returned from corps, I did a quick session orientation and than registered for classes. So, even though I missed the big freshman orientations, I was still able to get all the info I needed and start school on time. Talk to people and don't miss a year of corps!
  15. Beat me to it Diane. :) Kiwanis still has some strong canadian ties in staff and hopefully again in members. I know I'm excited to not have to go all the way to Florida until move-ins!
  16. Kiwanis 2003. I'd tell you to watch the video, except it doesn't exsist! :P "Oh Darlin" was based on one of our guard guys trying to get the lead guard girl. Good stuff.
  17. All that talent at ferndale as presented at MCBA finals. With Joe working with kiwanis and quite a few members of Ferndale there as well, it may only be a matter of time with the right upper management moves until Kiwanis isn't just that cute corps from canada.
  18. Wow, how did I not notice that? I was on the road all summer and dont remember ever seeing a rainstick, but now that you mentioned it, makes sense.
  19. So, I'm auditioning at Phantom and decided to stop by the website and see if there was any new information. On the left side they always have the latest items that they are selling and I noticed.... a rainstick? Any ideas? Just a product they think will sell for some reason or are they up to something? Just seeing if anyone has any guesses.
  20. Not calling it to happen, but is Kiwanis still considered a canadian corps or are they now an american corps? In the olympics, when an athlete has dual citizenship, they get to pick who they represent. Do they? :)
  21. Glad to see it looks like things are moving at DB still. Was a little worried that with all their problems with director and such last year and some of the staff moving to KK, that the members may follow and the corps would fold. Now, sure I'm a little biased and would love to see a lot of those talented players at KK, I never want to see a corps fold!!
  22. For anyone that may be curious or looking at places to march, Kiwanis has finally posted their winter camp schedule. It should really help that they are adding back in the "north camps" and not completely ditching their canadian roots.
  23. While the kiwanis uniforms do fall into the same lame color scheme, they were a welcomed change from the black and gold uniforms that had nothing to do with anything involving the corps. The new uniforms are an updated version of the 80's uni's. Also the uniforms they wore last year were more a prototype than anything as many changes are being made and the uniform should be even better this year. Big things in KK land? eh, we'll see....
  24. I have two things to add to this one. First off, I'm curious where this show was? My corps participated in the buffalo show at Dunn Tire Park, and I know that's not the show being referenced, so where was it? Second, unfortunatly, this type of things happen in corps, its just something you gotta trust what people tell you and work through it the best you could. In denver for finals in 2004, we pulled up to this beautiful high school about a 10 minute drive from the stadium with a gorgeous overlook of the city below us. Than they told us that we were basically in the middle of a gang fight and that the school was safe, but not to be out at night and to mind our own business. We did, and there were no issues.
  25. It has since folded but the independant world drumline SPYE was under the kiwanis kavaliers and the ventures winterguard is still a branch from KK.
