  1. Oh, I want to post but I may be disqualified! My two fave are 88 & 90, but they're not consecutive. Out on a technicality again! LOL
  2. 87 & 88. 85 The "original" Planets Show is my all time fave Cavies show.
  3. I personally would like to see the time limit increased again. I thought it was a shame when they started cutting it back in the first place. Some of the best shows in DCI history were 13 minutes or more! he he
  4. Oh man, I just melt every time I see that step over move! Classic, just classic!
  5. The all time best company fronts were done by GARFIELD CADETS! The "disolving company front" at the end of 1987 was just simply.....well, words can't describe the thunder in that stadium that night. Star 90 gave us a solid wall of sound in their closing too - Here's the vid: http://garfieldcadets7.tripod.com/
  6. SCV & Garfield Cadets 1985. SCV & Garfield Cadets 1987. Phantom Regiment 1989 & 1996. The all time cleanest, best, most exciting-make-you-pee-your-pants one minute in DCI history? The last full minute of Star of Indiana 1990. See the video here!: http://spiritofstlouis.tripod.com/1/
  7. Here's a couple of video captures from the 1980 Blue Devils video! http://garfieldcadets.tripod.com/id9.html PS - How do I post them here? It gives a button to link a pic from another webpage, but not to upload here? Thanks!
  8. Oh, yes, I just worship the ground 27th marched on! Yeah, I meant high school. Most guards in my area are HORRIBLE....it's bad when the guard from a 26 year old drum corps performance is BETTER than most high school guards you see today! LOL Yeah, you guys should have used the streamers in 94! The Lancer Guard just isn't the same without them.:-(
  9. Does anyone have any pics or know where I can find some from the original Blast! the Show? I use to have some, but lost the disk. Thanks!
  10. YEA! colorguardplanet is back up & running!
  11. I haven't seen too many of the older DCI videos (I've seen every world champ since 87, & videos of several before that), but I just saw BD 80, and I have to say that was AMAZING!!!!! The corps as a whole was outstanding, but man, that guard was awesome! Better than most HS guards out there today! Whoever write that guard book ought to be in a hall of fame somewhere! OK, enogh of the exclimation points :-) but I just can't get over how good they were! And why doesn't anybody use the streamers on rifles anymore? That was about the most visual thing I've ever seen. Aw, man, what a guard, what a corps, what a SHOW!
  12. I've noticed alot of guards doing only "single" tosses lately...could this be because they are unweighted? For field guard I like to use a heavy pole, they usually don't require weights, and if they do, top only. For winterguard, I like lightweight aluminum. No need for weights if you put enough muscle into it. Plus, you don't have the wind factor. BTW, has anyone ever spun wooden poles???? I used them for a field guard one year & they were so heavy the poor girls almost broke their arms! LOL I am a bit more muscular, and I liked them. They toss excellent, especially horizontal tosses.
  13. Well, since no one wants to take this on on, I will. My best advice it to get instructional videos. The are available from WGI, DCI & individual corps. As far as spinning & tossing flag, the basic spins are: drop spin (you drop the falg into the oppisite hand, while the oppisite hand is turned over, palm out), push spin (you push the pole with your hand turned over, palm on pole) and double-fast (aka peggy spin) (you start off with a drop spin, but instead of continuing drop spin you catch pole horizontal with both hands facing up, then continue with drop spin, repeat). To toss you should start with a wind-up: It's like a double fast, where you drop, flat, but then you bring the pole on around & catch with your left hand on top, right hand on bottm, the backs of your hands should be facing you, take right hand off pole & bring around to shoulder-hip angle with left hand hand, catch with right hand where the silk meets the pole & toss up with your right hand. I know all this sounds confusing, that's why I suggest a video. Rifle toss is a little simpler, there are many spins, combinations you could enter a rifle toss with, but basically you should prep the toss by bringing the barrel end of the rifle up so the rifle is straight up & down in front of you, then back down where the butt is on top, the bring back up & release upwards, tossing with your left hand. Sabre is basically the same as rifle. Just a different feel. You should get some other basics down with these peices of equipment before attempting tosses. Can you get someone on the guard at the high school to show you some basics? Hope this helps!
  14. I think the band/corps members are attracted to the guard members in general. There's just something exotic about being in the guard. Hey Alan, great job with Northgate! I saw you last year & you guys are amazing! <thumbs up>
