  1. The GCS equipment trailer will be hitting the road early in the morning. See you guys at the housing site Friday night. Just save us a plug so we can fire up the A/C without having to worry about that darn carbon monoxide poisoning from the generator.
  2. So...thats your answer then.....if you arent able to put together a big group then just give up and dont try? If all of the small start ups took this attitude they would never grow at all. It benefits these small start ups to get out in front of as many people as possible as many times in the year as possible in order to effectively market and recruit for their group. This year's edition of GCS is not the largest group that we have ever fielded because we have several vets who are taking this season off and luckily we added in a few rookies who saw us in various parades and shows around town but I guarantee that we can be just as entertaining at 34 as we are at 35. Its just sad that sponsors are too short sighted to see how badly the numbers rule cripples the growth of prospective corps.
  3. I am fairly certain that you only need two corps to be sanctioned. We were sanctioned last year at Brass on the Bayou in Houston with only 2 DCA corps competing but then again we had a few groups in exhibition also.
  4. Of course you could always hook the laptop up to the big screen tv and watch it from the comfort of your couch with a cold beer in hand.
  5. Figured it had to be some kind of malfunction. Lucky the Cadets weren't there or Hoppy would have made you tear down the poles and put in new ones....or re-paint the hashes with glow in the dark paint.
  6. Yeah...that was sort of a bummer seeing the numbers in the parking lot get smaller and smaller after each corps played. Maybe they should have saved the big boys for last. While I wasnt standing right in front of you guys, I did hear you from our trailer as we were loading. Very impressed that you guys keep on keeping on despite the setbacks and stuff that would fold a lot of corps. Keep it up.....you are definitely an inspiration to the small groups out there.
  7. Speaking of lights.... Why were there only lights on the front side of the stadium and not the backside? It made yardlines a little difficult to see at some points in the show.
  8. Great show MCL! Thanks for putting on a great show again at a great venue. Also a special thanks goes out to those MCL members who helped our pit girls move our equipment back around to the parking lot. We had some miscommunication amongst our staff and ended up leaving them shorthanded. We really appreciate your help. GCS arrived back home safe and sound around 4pm Sunday. Much easier trip when the air condition actually works on the bus. :) See you in Atlanta!
  9. Sorry about all of your troubles getting home Tom. You could have just stayed in town this week and we could have given you a ride to Nashville on Friday night. :) I had hoped to get a chance to at least say "Hi" but I was a little busy in the background myself running around doing little things for Barb and the rest of the board of directors while still getting ready to perform a show. But I am glad you had a good time and hope to see you again at our little show next year. Hopefully by then we will have at least 4 groups competing and not just exhibiting. :)
  10. Houston - July 26th GCS - 65.250 Frontier - 59.375 Austin Stars - exhibition Revolution - exhibition
  11. That sounds like a good section t shirt. The Drowned Rats
  12. Well then.....you dont know what you're missing. You should come out to our show next Saturday. www.brassonthebayou.org Performances by the Houston Shriners, Frontier, Austin Stars, Revolution, and GCS. Check the website for details.
  13. So....uh....yeah. You like forgot one corps.
  14. Good luck with your search. It took me a while to find mine.
  15. Great show! Thanks to FPAA for putting together another great event. This show will be even more fun when HCB and Stars and all the rest are part of the competing group in Class A. The after party was great too. Those of you who didnt have the chance to stop by for that missed a good time. Those HCB contra dudes are pretty crazy. Big thanks to them for inviting us to sit at their table. We look forward to many competitions and after parties with you guys in the future. Even that one quiet soprano player at the end of the table.....are you sure you play soprano? You were way too quiet for that. If any of you HCB guys make the trek to Rochester this year, GCS is staying at the Clarion down town. The first round is on me.
  16. Also please be prepared to pronounce the word "Kuykendahl" correctly when I see you at the show.
  17. Hey I drank beer with those guys!! I hope to see you HCB folks at a lot of shows in the future. Once you get to the point where you are hosting your own show let us know. We would be happy to make a trip up to Colorado if we can work out the logistics.
  18. So lets get back to the question of what is Josh doing the rest of the summer and what does he play?
  19. We are in a new spot this year. Apparently the place we were in last year filled up. Its downtown somewhere...maybe the Clarion.
  20. Wow...what a weekend. Who knew that 12 miles could be so long? Looking forward to it again next year. And definitely looking forward to the warmup parade in Galveston as well.
  21. Not to start a fight or anything but how could you possibly have done things differently without greatly affecting scheduled weekends off? How much griping would there have been if we had scheduled a rehearsal every weekend that we werent on tour? We really didnt have much choice in the matter at the time unless we wanted to become an every weekend corps and take the chance of running off the ones that werent that committed. Granted in those days things were different than they are now. Last year we had the entire show on the field by May and we didnt suffer from not having as much rehearsal time in July and August. Those days you are talking about we were never that far ahead of the game and we probably did suffer by not having as much rehearsal time in July and August but that was just one of those things that you had to deal with because there really was no other way. By the way, PM me your cell number so I can give it to Jenny so she can get in touch with you at TMEA. I probably wont be making it out there this year but she will be there from Wednesday thru Sunday.
  22. Voted on by whom exactly? Oh right....all the Open Class corps were the ones passing that rule. Large corps voting on an issue that doesnt affect them in any way since they will most likely never have to deal with a problem like not being able to field 35 members. Brilliant!
  23. Saturday July 26th - Houston, TX - Brass on the Bayou Sponsored by Gulf Coast Drum Corps Associates
