  1. I nicknamed my Alto / Meehaphone "Filthy, out of tune dirty whore."
  2. I have to go with BD's brass line this year, but I've heard rumors from multiple sources that SCV's opener this year is one of the most stunning drum corps spectacles ever seen............I guess we'll find out, eh?
  3. I nicknamed MY contra "Mercilessly Huge and HEAVY".
  4. well, one lick that stands out in my mind is the "Chain Reaction" by Hank Levy in Blue Devils 1993 show, a really slick soprano / alto feature in the drum feature.
  5. Um...............Out of good taste and tact, I should probably neither confirm nor deny this rumor.
  6. I marched with the 1989 Blue Devils. 1989 Blue Devils: Quite possibly the WORST soloist cack in DCI history. He played his solo flawlessly every performance and practice of the season, but when he cracked that high note at end of "If We Were In Love" instead of playing it safe, he tried UNSUCCESSFULLY THREE MORE TIMES to hit that note, and blew the rest of the solo. In addition to this, the next song (drum solo) began with a soprano solo (his) and he was so freaked out at the horror he'd just caused, he fracked half the notes in his next solo too! Not saying it's all his fault, but we took fourth finals night after having placed third the night before. He pretty much disappeared right after the finals performance, not sure what became of him after that. Kind of a hot dog, and egotistical jerkoff. Never liked him anyway.
  7. Those who think that french horns are too much of a "mess" to play, in my humble opinion haven't witnessed them played by those with sufficient talent to do so. If you're marching a FH line full of "trumpet converts", then you have a point. If you have sufficiently talented FRENCH HORN PLAYERS, THE SOUND IS MAGICAL AND POWERFUL. Playing AND marching them at the same time IS a #####, it takes work, blood, sweat and tears.........but they produce a sound that mellophones can only dream of producing. To those who think I'm just talking out my ###, I marched in the french horn section of SCV 1988, and although I realize that the marching drill of today is more difficult, if you have FRENCH HORN PLAYERS playing them it is possible to produce beautiful music without the "mess".
  8. Dude...............it's because lamebrain guys said "You can't handle that............you're a GIRL" that some of the most ###### contra players in the activity are girls. I remember we had a girl in the contra line earlier in 2002, she was really small but she was a KICK ### player AND marcher. Unfortunately, she had to move and we lost her. Girls that play contra are a turn on.
  9. 1988 Blue Devils, 1991 Star of Indiana.
  10. I played mellophone/french horn/ alto horns my entire corps career, but in early 2002 we had a shortage of contras in the Renegades.........I had always had this crazy fantasy of playing contra, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I don't think I'lll ever play anything else, it's too much of a hype!
  11. Line up and buy that Renegade merchandise...............before you know it, they'll be all sold out and YOU will be left out in the cold. Buy now, so that doesn't happen!
  12. Gee. Wonder why most of the top 5 wears dark pants. Kudos to Cadets on this particular point:)
  13. Since everyone else here has been bringing up the old Suncoast Sound hornlines, how 'bout Suncoast Sound 1988? That was a pretty LOUD a## line too!!
  14. Yes, last nite was awesome. Congratulations Lewie on a kick ### drum majoring job last nite, you rock!
  15. I play Contra because it kicks a&$, and because I've always wanted to. Having been a high brass player my entire drum corps career (sop, french horn, mellophone) I've always been in awe of contra players, so I thought I'd give it a try. Love it to death, will probably be a contra player for some time to come:)
