  1. I owned a 53 SUNLINER, always laughed about the merger of the two corps
  2. Chuck, we can discuss this in a pm. They will be adding orange and blue to the uni. They have 6 snares, 4 toms, 4 bass, but I think there was a personal issue this weekend in the tom section. Thank you Mr. Adcock for the play by play.
  3. Hi Chuck! There are more additions to the uniform coming, I believe an orange and blue stripe or sash across the chest and the sun logo on the other side, if not there already. The show is comprised of all Russian compositions and they portray Russia in 1917 with Larry as the Czar
  4. my page shows 18 people following this. Please continue......
  5. a tube, a piece of garden hose, anything long round and hollow.
  6. besides a contra he can play a tube like nobody else.
  7. When it comes to stories about this guy we can write a book!
  8. Well nancy, I didnt know Root Beer too well as he was only in Sun a couple years and was much younger than I at the time so we didnt spend alot of quality time together especially as he was in a differenrt section than I. . The only story I can tell and one that I will never forget, I alluded to in a previous post. Suffice to say it was a long bus ride, Root beer was something like 16 yrs. old and somehow got ahold of the adult cookie jar ( beer cooler) on the bus and ended up running up and down the aisle of the bus with projectile vomit,. I think we ended up beating the crap out of him afterwards.
  9. There are quite a few people from drum corps that I never knew their real name until later on. There were some years in Sun when just about everyone had a nickname and it was tough to call them by their real names. Some guys in other corps I only knew by nicknames and never learned their true identities. And then there is Stan.
  10. Correct spelling of her name is Kathleen. To my knowledge she was one of DCA's first female tom players starting back in 1979. She played toms with Sun for many years and was in the inaugural class for the Sun hall of Fame when the corps reinstituted it in 2001. Kathleen has made a career with the NYPD working her way up the ranks and last I heard she is heavily involved in the upper echelon of the Police Union. Also she was drum major of the NYPD band for a number of years. A beautiful girl, great gal, and a Sunriser through and through.
  11. I'm not sure how many years Ernie marched with Sun but I know he was around during the glory years and some. Like I said previously, he was a real strong hornplayer, baritone I believe, one of the fabled 10 iron mothers in Sunriser lore if I remeber correcltly. Ernie was a low key guy, I think he got the quiet man award one year, and I remember he was a little guy who weighed about 95 pounds soaking wet. Like I said before, we had a corps softball game during one season and skinny little Ernie came roarin around the bases and crashed into Joe Thompson who was pushing about 220 pounds and built like a linebacker. Ernie came out of that collision okay but ended up breaking Joe's foot from the impact, knocking Joe out of the bassline for the rest of the year. I ended up coming out of retirement to fill Joe's spot, 1994 I believe. Oh and for a little guy Ernie could really pound them down, but so could most of the rest of us too. I guess he's not so little anymore.
  12. Wow! That's Ernie Hall! What happened to the 95 lb. little guy that broke 220 lb. JT's foot during that softball game? Great to see he's still around. havent seen him in like 30 years. I never would have recognized him. Great guy and a real strong hornplayer!
  13. where did you see sun may not go to finals because of lack of funds? Re: St. Mary's, no Cliff was not our drum instructor. We had a few guys teaching but I dont remember their name

  14. My favorite vantage point to watch a show from.
  15. 1981 Hurcs, Sun, Bucs, and Sky and Cabs if I can have 2 more. A very competitive year with great shows by all.
  16. In my opinion, nobody "Loses" , although coming in last place can be dissapointing, the opportunity for performing in front of a crowd doing what you enjoy is a "Winning" experience regardless of placement. I wish I could do that again. Not nitpicking, I understand the jist of your comment and it's lighthearted intention.
