  1. Usually you can use your ticket for next years show. Refunds might bankrupt whoever organizes the show because you still need to cover housing, judges travel, stadium rental, advertising, and all that stuff, even if the show did not go on. Some places have room to do some kinda of indoor concert, but most of the time it just does not work.
  2. From the National Weather Service: http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?m...zmx=1&zmy=1 Hazardous weather condition(s): Severe Thunderstorm Warning Severe Thunderstorm Watch Severe Weather Statement Heat Advisory Flood Advisory Hazardous Weather Outlook Tonight: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. North northwest wind between 5 and 8 mph. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible. So, anyone know if the show is still on? GO COLTS!!!
  3. http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=287776 Thursday, July 1, 2010 Small Fry plays big role in Music on the March Colts' drum major is in 7th year with the organization. BY SANDYE VOIGHT TH STAFF WRITER They call her Small Fry. That 4-foot, 11-inch drum major, standing tall for the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps Wednesday night during Music on the March, was Michelle Wolfe, a 17-year-old from Dickeyville, Wis. She is in her first year as a Colt, but her seventh with the organization. But first the Racine (Wis.) Scouts "struck up the band" to open the competition at Dalzell Field with "The Fascinating Rhythms of George Gershwin." The hometown crowd leaped to its feet for Dubuque's own Cadets. Their "Sorcerer's Revenge" repertoire ended with a mountain of flashing flags for an energetic "Night on Bald Mountain." Pioneer, of Milwaukee, had a Christian-themed program, "The Corps Prayer," with a color guard dancing in purple choir robes. Fans of the La Crosse (Wis.) Blue Stars waved large blue stars featuring glam shots of their faves. The corps presented a tribute to Harry Houdini, complete with caskets for "disappearing" color guards. Before the Colts took the field, the Cavaliers presented "Mad World" with a screamer and a "Smile," by Charlie Chaplin. And, the other Cadets, from Allentown, Pa., had a clownlike interloper among their "Toy Souldier" antics. Later, the Colts took the field, for their "True Colors," with Small Fry at the back of the lighted field, keeping time as the Colts took the crowd from "Green" to "Appalachian Morning." Wolfe had been a Colt Cadet for six years, "in the pit" for the first three. "That means you play those mallet instruments," she said, describing "the pit," earlier in the day. For the next three years, she was a drum major. "We're the ones on top to conduct," she explained. On performance days, she said, Colts and Cadets rehearse about four hours. On non-performance days, it's more like 12 hours, with breaks. During the school year, Wolfe, who will be a senior at Cuba City High School, plays flute and performs on the school dance team. Her brother, Kyle, marched for four or five years and her sister, McKenzie, joined the Cadets this year, in the color guard. Their dad, Mike, has been on many a Cadet trip and this year Mom -- Bonnie -- has traveled with them, as well. Wolfe said the best thing about being in drum corps is meeting all the people and knowing that, if she's having a bad day, there are 149 people who can cheer her up. On Wednesday, there were 2,650 people cheering her on -- the second-largest crowd ever for Music on the March, according to director Greg Orwoll. Competition results World class First place -- Cadets, Allentown, Pa., 80.8 Second place -- Cavaliers, Rosemont, Ill., 78.4 Third place -- Blue Stars, La Crosse, Wis., 76.4 Fourth place -- Dubuque Colts, 69.8 Fifth place -- Pioneer, Milwaukee, 64.4 Open class First place -- Colt Cadets, 64.2 Second place -- Racine (Wis.) Scouts, 58.6
  4. University of Dubuque, Loras College, Wartburg Seminary. But...I think the high school has the most seating for drum corps ('cause I asked some staff and they told me that.) Show was great, everything looked to be packed up by about midnight when I got out of there. I did not get to see many whole shows as I was running around all night, but I gotta agree with the folks on the first page of this that the Dubuque show folks know there stuff! Everything was way organized, everyone who was working seemed to know what was going on or who to ask if they had a question, and pretty much everyone I came in contact with in the stadium had a great attitude.
  5. No lights? That is not cool! Usually this show is at MN State in Mankato, which is a great stadium, but they are tearing up the grass and putting turf down, and it has to be done before the Vikings show up for training camp, so the show got moved to St. Peter not too long ago.

  10. Jason and company has been working hard to update the GCS website the past month. The homepage has a new look with lots of links to our projects, we have photos up from all 4 Brass on the Bayou shows in Houston, and the Gulf Coast Sound main page has photos of lots of GCS alumni in action. You can click to see the 2010 staff, show music, and corps schedule for the summer. It is not finished yet, but enough is up to give everyone a good sneak peak. Take a look at let us know what you think! http://www.gulfcoastsound.org/
  11. An Evening With GCS "We're BACK and we brought the party with us!" Spend a night out with GCS as we hit the club scene at the end of another hard day at the office. Every evening starts with the countdown to the end of the work day. When the clock hits 5, it's time to cut loose and head to the neighborhood watering hole to have a good time. Never knowing who we'll meet, the music we'll hear on the jukebox, or how the night plays out is all part of the fun. Most of the time, the wait staff keeps us happy and the proprietor keeps us in line, but as closing time nears anything can happen with this wild bunch from Texas. Join us as we celebrate our return to the DCA field of competition! What Is Hip? Tower of Power Johnny's Mambo Michael Lloyd A Kiss from a Rose Seal Flirtin' With Disaster Molly Hatchet For more information: http://www.gulfcoastsound.org/show.html
  12. Tom forgot to mention one little detail...some of the gigs will be on a trailer! No marching
  13. Come on down! I am in the Icebox of Iowa right now getting updates from the day on my phone and facebook, and it sounds like everything is going very well! Hopefully I will have photos or video or something to share soon...
  14. 2010 Open House The 2010 season will officially kick off with the Open House on Saturday, January 9. The event will take place at the Corps home, Rittenhouse Baptist Church. Maps can be found here. Starting time is 12 PM and we'll wrap up around 5 PM. There is no cost! The Corps will provide the instruments and music that you will need for the day. If you have your own G bugle (2 or 3 valve) you are welcome to bring it. We have a full "battery" of percussion and front ensemble equipment. The hornline uses 3 valve G bugles which are played just like most concert instruments. In fact, the music is even written the same way. So, there's very little adjustment needed to perform on a bugle. The color guard has an array of flags, sabers, and rifles available. Percussionists need to bring sticks. Hornline members need to bring a standard shank trumpet, marching mellophone, trombone/baritone, or tuba mouthpiece. Guard members need to bring guard gloves. *Please bring a music stand if you have one. Everyone is encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes, there will be a lot of standing and moving around. The Corps will provide water for you, but for personal convenience it's always better to have your own close at hand. The day will be spent playing through some basics, our warm-up book, and several concert charts, as well as two or three selections from the 2010 production. During the day the staff will explain the 2010 production, the 2010 tour schedule, the dues structure, and other general information about the Corps. Parents and spouses are HIGHLY encouraged to spend the day and get to know the Corps and the staff. If you are under 18 you MUST be accompanied by an adult sponsor. http://www.gulfcoastsound.org/open-house.html
  15. OMG the beads...the float behind us 2 years ago in New Orleans threw at least 200 CASES of them before we even got lined up to think about marching! It was so much fun, crowd 50 deep in some places, lots of kids and families along the routes, lots of happy cops with beads standing around just in case, throw-downs with the high school kids that all ended in good fun, people nice enough to offer us beverages along the way (don't accept any, never know what might be in in, but it was a nice thought anyway...) Major fun, and going in a group means super-low expenses for everyone, safety in numbers, and all that. Come party with us!!!! You just don't get it until you have been there
  16. GCS 2010 starts tonight. Brass only. We're auditioning a new Brass Tech (some of you will know this GCS Vet). The new Brass Caption Head will join us at Open House. Lots of good stuff is percolating. See you tonight. Bring friends. 6:30 Rittenhouse Baptist Church www.gulfcoastsound.org
  17. We have some concert gigs set for the fall, have the 2010 show just about nailed down, fundraising plans are going...now is the time to get involved! www.gulfcoastsound.org
  18. I know there are more on-the-field videos on that "one website" from past years, including some contra-cams from GCS and whatever other corps they got the idea from in the first place.
  19. Way to represent DCA South and DCA Central!!! Amazing growth in the past 5 years
  20. I got the following e-mail from my dad and thought it was entertaining enough to share: We went to the drum corps show in St Peter this afternoon. Nice day and there were 5 groups that played. A little corps from Michigan finished last and they did well but not enough power to compete. A corps from Denton, TX finished 4th and were pretty good but again they were pretty small. They had a nice show based around baseball. The Govies were 3rd and they did well but the two best were the Kilties from Racine, WI and the Minn Brass. There were alot of Kilties and they were all dressed to the hilt in there Scotish outfits. They finished second and the Brass came in first. They gave a length of garden hose to the 4th place finisher from TX and a check for $50 to the Brass drawn on the "Governaires Bank" at Patricks Tavern in St Peter. I believe the same guy runs both. The best laugh was the Kilties gift for finishing in 2nd place. They are from Racine WI and they got a football auto- graphed by Brett Favre. The show was about two hours and their next stop will be in Rochester. St. Peter, MN 08/23/09 Sunday, August 23rd, 2009 1. Minnesota Brass Inc. 93.638 2. Kilties 84.088 3. Govenaires 81.988 4. Vigilantes 75.650 5. Lakeshoremen 64.475 South St. Paul, MN 08/22/09 Saturday, August 22nd, 2009 1. Minnesota Brass Inc 92.313 2. Kilties 82.525 3. Govenaires 80.325 4. Vigilantes 72.40 5. Lakeshoremen 63.113 (1.0)
  21. FYI-Brass on the Bayou in Houston has always had a full retreat as well, often with the Texas corps doing a mass-brass of some tunes from the Texas Drum Corps Preview. It is kinda fun to teach the DCI kids that perform at our show how to do a full retreat
  22. Thank you! I is killing me that I am not in Atlanta this weekend, first stupid time since in 5 years (Go MCL----Go Josh!!!!!)
  23. Revo-I love the show, and the kids are working super-hard
