  1. Just curious but I would love to see the total vote breakdown for last year. Just from a Phantom Rgiment perspective it seems like people are all over the radar on what PR show they want to see this year. So far I have seen plenty of posts for 78,79,81,83,89,91,93,03, and 05 My personal choice is 89 as that is still the best show they have ever fielded (and the fact I was in it doesn't hurt), but I am sure we'll get it on the countdown eventually. I am just wondering whena a corps has so many great shows to choose from, BD and Cadets as well, does it hurt their chances? I love SCV as much as anyone, but only 3 or 4 SCV shows really stand out for me which means they are almost 100% sure to get a ton of votes. Anyone elses thoughts?
  2. Thats a great list, especially 87 cadets, I would add 89 regiment, and 85 SCV. Loved 88BD as well
  3. Bobk, I believe for some reason or another the 05 shows are not in the mix. Let me suggest 89 Regiment? Cheers, -Mark
  4. as long as people are posting their lists, here is what I will be voting for. 77 Bridgemen 79 Spirit 85 SCV 86 Suncoast 87 Cadets 89 Regiment 93 Star 94 BD 95 Scouts 96 Cavies and I am open to suggestions for the 00s as I haven't been keeping up much except for last year which if I understand correctly is not eligible.
  5. Well I marched in 89 and was on visual staff in 96. I did not mind 96 making it over 89 last year as 96 was a great show, but it would have been nice to see 89 PR and 89 SCV together. The strange thing for me is I, and most of the people I know, would have picked 88SCV over 89. 88 was a better show I thought and 88scv was one I voted for. but you are right, people only tend to vote for championship shows first. I am really keeping my fingers crossed for 89 regiment to make it this year. Was the best summer of my life. Aside from 89 regiment, the show I would most like to see is 87 cadets. Their Appalachain Spring show that year was a landmark in the activity and really had a HUGE impact on how drill was written from then on. Plus its just an awesome show. Regardless of what shows get voted in this year, I am sure it will be great fun to watch. That being said, let's get 89 Regiment in. SUTA, -The Duckman
  6. I LOVED Regiment 03, but 89 was better. even in terms of modern vs. 80s. I know I am not alo0ne in thinking 89 Regiment is still the best show PR has ever fielded. Someone mentioned a page or so ago that 86 Suncoast was the year to vote for, and I would agree 100%
  7. I was on visual staff at Spirit in 92 and they were MUCH better nusically than visually. The drill was constantly being re-written and we got rained on a bunch in the early summer in Atlanta so had a pain getting it on the field. I still enjoy that show, but it was not as strong overall as it sounds on the CDs
  8. I was there, and due to the screwey way order was decided for finals, we (Regiment) went on in sunlight and got to watch most of the better corps. SCV should have won. There 88 show was better than what they won with in 89. Madison had an awesome 1/2 show. Malaguena was some of the best drum corps ever put on the field, but half a show shouldn't cut it. Loved BD that year as well.
  9. BD/SCV is a no brainer. When I marched in the 80s, all the midwest corps were high quailty and always at each others throats. PR/Cavs/Scouts/Star
  10. I just quick read thru the 5 pages and am surprised (but maybe its my age) at the lack of attention 89 Regiment and 87 cadets have gotten. The 87 cadets is by far my favorite all time. That Appalachian Spring show was unbelievable for any year. As for 89 regiment, I am biased I guess.
  11. The ones I would really love to see are: 89 Regiment 87 Cadets 94 BD 95 Scouts also, 86 Suncoast would be cool
  12. If you watch the cavies drill closely you will see that nothing they are executing is all that difficult from the memebrs standpoint. It looks alot more complicated than it is. There is a lot of contrary motion and cyclical movement, but nothing all that complicated. Its just designed very very well.
  13. The show has to be designed to be seen from a certain perspective or the drill and music won't be effective. The pressbox is the obvious choice as it is front and center and thats where the judges are. Broadway shows are designed the same way, perform to front and center thats why the center orchestra level seats are most expensive. A choice has to be made that this is where the show is meant to be seen from. Can't perform to the whole stadium without it losing something. There is a reason they call the area between the 40s and in front of the back hash the "Golden Zone"
  14. Not true, a 22.5 inch step does not fit front to back on a football field. If some members mark off from back side, others from back hash, others from front hash, and others from front side it will not be a "perfect form" even if everyone marks off correctly. Granted, it will be close, but not perfect.
  15. No corps I have ever been a part of had instructors that did that.
  16. Never heard of Mudvayne, but I looked them up. The guys name didn't ring a bell. I marched late 80s, but was in the hornline so ya never know. we practiced seperately, our quad line could have been anyone and I might not know LOL
  17. I am not sure if anyone mentioned this, but form beats dots for the following reason. The drill sheets used by the drill writers are an approximation of the real world. The 8 to 5 step does not mathematically fit (without remainder) into a football field. It is fine for marching from one yard line to another but it is fudged when going from front to back and sideline to hash and so on. If you go strictly by dots on the paper you will get small gaps at some point because some people will mark off from hash, others from sideline. In the end, its a comprimise, one will not work without the other. If you go strictly by dots you will have imperfect forms, if you go strictly by form you might end up 5 yards off (and I have seen it happen). There is a reason all corps use a mix of the two, even the Cavies as much as they may deny it, The Cavaliers, like every other corps cover down when in a form, its human nature to look and get in line. But all things must have a starting point which is why you learn with dots, but clean using forms. At least that has been my experience over the years
  18. Is it just me or does anyone else find it a bit off that a corps does a theme show and no one is really sure what the theme is?
  19. Always thought I was alone on the Mozart Requiem show LOL Would love to hear 70 horns belting out Dies Irae
  20. We were at the US Open that year, BD and Star where there as well. After the show I found a Star Corps Jacket in the parking lot. They had left so I figured I would drop it off the next night when we saw them again. I had several good friends marching Star so seemed like no big deal. When we inspected the jacket, where it would normally have the members name and instrument, it said simply, Pink Elephant. True Story
  21. My favorite, although I don't think they are around anymore, was the Phantom Regiment Pre-cadets. Nothing like seeing a pile of 5 and 6 years olds all ,arching sop and being so serious about it, especially when the A corps was around.
  22. 89 Regiment 87 Cadets 94 BD 85 SCV 03 Regiment 95 Scouts
  23. Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet would be great. I seem to recall there was talk of doing Peter and the Wolf when I was marching. in the late 80s. I would love to see some Mozart (Requiem, even though he supposedly didn't write all of it) or an all Beethoven show.
