  1. A tie tonight. Well that's interesting. At the beginning of the season I didn't think it would be this close in the end.
  2. From the Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps Facebook page: "After a long wait, Southwind is indeed returning to performing in 2014. Southwind will return to DCI in the Sound Sport division. We are NOW actively looking to put together a small staff and recruiting for membership will formally begin in the fall. We are looking for 50 members of any age who either live in or can travel to the Mobile, AL area. More details coming soon. Thanks for waiting! :-)"
  3. Madison is my corps so I hope they stay on top of course, but realistically I think the Cavies will take the lead here pretty soon.
  4. 1.Madison made me cream myself 2.BD i liked a lot too 3.Cavies made me think! ^^my top three
  5. since people have been talking about how "easy" the Scouts' show is this year, and how "much more physically demanding" the other corps' shows are, I just gotta throw this out there... look at any of Madison's shows in like the last decade. Look at how much more they are moving than anyone else. hell, in 06 members of other corps had nicknamed them "track team Madison" because of how much they were moving! score-wise, did they get more recognition for this? nope. anyways, the show is fantastic guys! keep it up!!!
  6. can someone please PM me about Ray?! He is my nail and I was never able to meet the man...
  7. it's topics like this that make me realize how lucky i am to have come from a good home with parents willing to pay for all this stuff. i live in oklahoma and they paid for me to fly to every camp in madison...quite a ways away....but like krista said before, it's so worth it! it truly changed my life!
  8. so really all that's been established in this thread is that some people define a cymbal line differently than others, which decides whether or not the OP was lied to. perfect example of "agree to disagree". put me in for a vote to close this thread, because the madison-haters are just grinning ear-to-ear at the opportunity to make all the driveby comments they want (i.e. "so much for never walking alone huh?") i'm with bawker. the OP needs to take this matter someplace where it will do more than just run around in circles.
  9. lol to everything, especially the 2nd post. the nail tradition started in 05, and they are a symbol for the acronym "never alone in life". it's a way to help the current members to get in touch with their past. when a new member is given his nail by a vet, he also receives the short history of a notable alumnus. the alumnus may be back from when the corps started, or as recent as the mid-2000s, but he was certainly the embodiment of what it means to be a Madison Scout. fyi, my nail is Ray Baumgart. he worked with Madison in the pre-dci years. he arranged the current version of "May You Never Walk Alone" that the men still play today. unfortunately he has passed away so i'll never get to speak with him, but may of the guys' nails are still alive and in regular contact with them. as for myself, every time i hear the corps play MYNWA i feel a little something extra. the '10 corps first show is tonight and i'd give anything to be there just before step-off when they start singing. DO IT UP MADISON!!! YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE!!!!
  10. after a year with my first corps, i never really felt at home. im kinda quiet, and the whole summer no one ever really talked to me. i didn't make any friends in the corps and felt like an outsider, but i did like the activity so rather than give it up i just decided to change corps. i had heard stories of this "madison brotherhood" so i decided to check it out. i meshed with the guys instantly and would give ANYTHING to be with them just one more day.
  11. i have a friend who is fat as hell but not only got a contract at the first audition camp, but was told that he was head and shoulders above the rest in playing AND marching. granted, they told him he needs to lose weight but they didn't mind too much. and btw it was a top 12 corps that has a pretty large fan base here on DCP.
  12. have they released a pic or sketch of the unis yet?
  13. Im in the middle of a workout program called P90X that some of you may have heard about. I wish I had known about this before I aged out! To anyone else who has gone through P90X, do you agree that this would be a good training program for before you head off to everydays?
  14. #### the oil can. i hope corps aren't designing their shows and such around playing in a dome when the vast majority of shows are outside
  15. i've filmed every show i've been to. granted i'm only filming my corps because i really couldn't care less about the others, but still. and i'm gonna keep doing it. i've never distributed them. i only do it so i can watch it a few more times once i get home because i live in a state where there are virtually no dci shows and i don't want to wait for the dvds to see my corps again. i also don't want to pay for the fan network because, as i've said, i only really care about my corps. i don't want to pay for the dvds either but do anyway. why? because the footage that i take myself sucks. it has crappy picture, sound, one angle, and people talking moving in front of the picture. so dci still gets there money from me. though i will say this in hopes that dci reads these forums and i want them to know; the dvds ARE way overpriced and if they don't come down i will no longer buy them. i'll burn a copy of a friend's dvd
  16. I, for one, would be flattered that someone is such a fan of what i've done.
