  1. That girl is 18 and marched 08 and 09, meaning she was 17 when she started and could march 5 or 6 summers straight. On top of that, she marched one of the best corps around these days. And if she is the one saying "It's just marching band"... Then she has all the rights to do. I really, REALLY hope that those who get ###### for calling drum corps a marching band actually marched... otherwise I can hear the ###### allert already.
  2. an interesting stat would be how many straight leg related injuries VS how many bent knee related injuries. I was wondering... what's the point of using a marching style instead of just walking? - Uniformity of movement from member to member (just like uniforms for the purely visual aspect); - (just for horn players) Give enough stability to the upper body to sound good. Then, if those are right, I guess hard straight leg cadets style is not the answer.

    BERP

a question for any of you who uses BERP on a mellophone. I'm about to buy a stock for my band at wwbw.com. Which one will better fit on a mello, the trumpet or the cornet one? Thanks.
  4. haha, thanks silvertrb ;-) Summer, unless there's a world cup or european championship going on, leaves stadiums empty. So they would all be available for drum corps. Grass can be cleaned or replaced. Also, I think that finals should be held in the heart of europe, meaning London, Paris or Berlin. Where, btw, the most of european DC fans live. Spain has not even clue what marching band is, Italy is still in the process of getting a clue. I was also thinking about Amsterdam Arena: but it's indoor... btw I performed in the Giuseppe Meazza in Milan, we were only 64 (36 winds) and the echo was terrible... Think about 150 members. In general, stadiums with a running track should be avoided. That would keep fans, I think, too far from the front side line. So soccer dedicated stadiums should be picked.
  5. Remember, it's not easy to get to use a stadium for non-soccer activities unless there's A LOT of pressure... and financial support and interests. Anyway, there's a few stadiums that would be great... Berlin, Olympiastadion (2006 world cup final) Munich, Allianz Arena too much roof, maybe? ;-) Paris, Stade de France Milan, Giuseppe Meazza Couldn't find any good pic of the new Wembley, anyway you can find some cool videos here: http://www.wembleystadium.com/
  6. as far as I know Cavaliers usually have between 190 and 220 charts. Due to the dot-to-dot issue members also learn midsets and, quite often, mid-midsets. So it's a lot of numbers to keep in mind, but it seems you can do it with a capable staff. Also, when marching simple dots to simple dots (like standart 8 to 5 or easy diagonals) you are virtually able to figure out with simple math where you're supposed to be every single step.
  7. weren't cadets marching at like 80 bpm for 3 minutes in 05? if that's demanding... well, "de gustibus non disputandum"...
  8. ok, I watched star 93 for the third time in a row now... Am I the only one to think that this show is quite... boring? it is a demanding show, no doubt about that... but still... I haven't seen many shows from those years, but the funny part is that they kinda go back and forth from integrating drill-wise the guard with the rest of the corps (something cavies, for example, do a lot today) and letting them out of the scene like just a frame (... cadets). that was still part of the evolution, I guess.
  9. why should a parent look at this place to know about today drum corps? a lot of the people on here never marched, a lot of them marched before 2000... this is simple. I understand that pregnancy might be the problem, but then let's help kids to understand what's right for them. use condoms. don't be stupid and don't ruin your life. menaing not making sex an evil thing, that's a wonderful part of life. but be smart. and responsible for you and her. then, why in the world a sponsor should stop sponsoring a show if he heard that people actually have sex on tour? they do it all year long, why should they stop during tour? why should he/she consider it a problem? is it a moral issue? come on, I really don't see this possibly coming true.
  10. I don't really see what's wrong with talking about this stuff. does the word "sex" offend someone? it's something we all do... oh well, maybe someone doesn't, because he's so active on this forum that he wouldn't have any time to do anything else besides posting here, but come on... I've seen worst topics... at least this is about real life.
  11. In the parking lot of the Alamo Dome, behind a waste container... gross...
  12. is there any standstill recording of the SCV 1999 show you guys know about?
  13. I understand what you mean, but let me remember you what happened. There was a corps rehearsing on a field and "Bizkowski got the 20 players to run and wade into the band members". now, this to me seems to me an intimidatory act to get the corps kids to go away or, at least, to show them "who's the man". now, would you define "believing in your staff, coaches, the program, whatever" hurting an innocent kid who is simply rehearsing? I define that person with the exact words I used before: brainwashed ######. If you want to get somewhere, you need to use your brain. you must be able to understand what's right and what's wrong.
