  1. I'm seriously worried that Granny Smith is going to have an aneurism.
  2. I have missed you, Granny. Don't you get your knickers all wound up in knots. It's not good for the circulation!
  3. Troopers have had a few members out with illness, from what I hear. Sounds like they are on the mend and will rejoin the show soon.
  4. I ask only because I'm wondering if someone pulled rights out from under them. I would not expect BK to be unprepared in such regard.
  5. is it possible that BK had or still has arranging/performance/synch/recording rights issues with a piece they had selected for their closer and they've had to rework it?
  6. I am throwing babies now. I haven't liked a BD show much lately. It hasn't been my cup of tea. Until tonight. HOLY COW.
  7. Ticheli Earth Song is a wonderful choral piece, loved having my high school kids sing it, and SCV playing it makes me smile.
  8. gotta do it: HOOOOOOOOOO TROOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!!!!!!! So wish I was there in person.
  9. yay for singing well and not pre-recorded as far as I can tell
  10. thanks for the quick responses: I'm Chromecasting to google fiber TV, in case that matters
  11. quick sound question: anyone else getting volume shifts up and down at brief intervals of 3-5 seconds? If not I've got to figure out what's causing it on my end. ugh.
  12. Troopers are taking the field. (I'm on Troop Chat, not at show)
  13. You'll have to explain what happened for those of us who didn't get to see it!
  14. I'm very jealous of Garfield and Kevin and everyone else who will be there. This sounds like a fabulous show with strong hosting and lots of fun. Enjoy! (Go Troop!)
  15. I agree - so glad to see a corps original to Texas starting to make its mark and get this far! It's not easy!
  16. Here's my take: show is good, very good. Design is good, kids are working hard, talent is up, teaching is excellent. That's what we can control. What we can't control: what other corps are doing in design, who they have in their talent and education pool, and what they've done to improve in their off season. First show is over. Second show is underway. Let audiences enjoy the shows, let judges do their thing, and whatever happens happens.
  17. HOOOOOO TROOOOOP! (wish I was there, I'm just posting because it's their step off time)
  18. Austin, TX south side theater, pretty full. Late arrivals all had to find seats in the first two rows or try to figure out a way to get to a few individual seats scattered among the crowd. Applause was fairly consistent and given for all corps at various times. My initial thoughts aren't about the individual corps. Every single one had things to offer that are worth a whole lot of my time and attention, and probably my souvie money. My thoughts at the moment are about what I think is happening, overall, in this activity: It's clear to me that Cirq de Soleil, modern dance and performance companies pushing their envelopes, the spread of pageantry arts like WGI perc and guard, and lots of other ensemble performer acts and activities are becoming more accessible to more people due to social media and video content on demand. DCI seems poised to capitalize on this new public interest for intriguing, intense and awe-inducing performance spectacle. This is a good thing, and I like it. However, one has to wonder if this will be a problem for judging criteria. Then again, judging is fun for an audience - if people pay to see shows and keep coming back, then it's a win win. So, I guess I'll add a small blurb about each show: Boston - love the windmills, enjoyed the music, like the new unis a lot, fix the pit balance Cavies - I'm diggin' the look and the bravado, please finesse the emotional pace of the show Phantom - sweet ensemble writing, guard was as elegant as always, not sure I'm sold on their theme yet but it's June Cadets - me during first half: AWESOME!, me during second half: what's going on? And violin tuning could be a big music issue all year. Started fine, but something changed midway through. (mic issues aside) It was grating. I like the concept and sound of it, but not if it's going to be out of tune. Bloo - new unis made me notice individual differences in movement a LOT more than I would if they were in a more uniform-like uniform. Not sure that's good, but I like the style they chose. I like the show concept, will enjoy this music a lot. Crown - huh - I should like this show a lot, so why don't I? 2muchcoffeeman summed it up well - felt lacking in build up for me. Again, it's June and I very well might change my tune come August. All in all, I'm happy about where things are going. Corps seem to be getting better at selling the theatrical aspect of their nature and character. I hope this translates to broader audience appeal outside of the initiated.
  19. (Homer alert) This show makes me very happy. That is all.
  20. Helped out at the last Texas camp. This is not your typical Troopers show. Not by a long shot. Corigliano? Yep. And it's spectacular. The musical and emotional sophistication is ramped up, sound design is ramped up. Visual is key and they know it. I had a chance to sit and talk with DVD and RWS about this show, and this corps. Legendary people, those two. I can't wait to see the visual package. (Huge guard at camp, too) I think the new uniform will make a lot more sense in this show.
