  1. Is it to early to start the annual West Coast inflated scores thread yet??
  2. Going to Long Beach Veterans Stadium to watch the Kingsmen`s performance
  3. To those of us which see only one or two shows a year, the themes are wasted on us. We simply dont get enough opportunities to match the theme with what is happening on the field......Then again.... I suppose that if you saw something that you liked and wanted to see it again, I could purchase a video of the show. Themes are here to stay and I would expect that no corps will stray away from them.
  4. Last night was a Major competition. Immediatley after the scores came up, I noticed that 630 people were on the SA scores topic.....Assuming that this interest was happening at a peak because of the nature of the show. I would say that 7% would be very high. This sight has a very loud minority that numbers in probably the low 100s and probably 1000s of casual users. It is a great sight for anyone interested in the Drum Corps activity to get information, but the forum has been taken over by a relatively few.
  5. Well, I do .... but the shows that these kids are performing these days absolutely fascinate me. I marched in the 70s and early 80s and loved it. It has changed alot but I have much respect for the corps today. I watch them tobe entertained, to go back to my youth, to be around "drum corps people", its a place I`m comfortable and always welcome. I try not to critique the corps and I think that is why I do enjoy them. I will only get to see one show this year, Finals and what I will do is spend most of my time watching drumlines warming up outside the stadium. What they do today is amazing ........ This DCI will probably be my last, but I get to relive the magic, one last time as a performer in the KAC at semi`s (with that HUGE crass hornline) and crisp color guard and do some Drummin of my own "old school".... Saturday night is for the youth. They will absolutely shine, I am sure and I will be entertained and enjoy myself. The spirit of Drum Corps is still there for me anyway..the approach has changed over the years. I will still probably enjoy the activity in 30 years when the laser light shows and pyrotechnics take over,,,, but thats just me
  6. B)--> QUOTE(Jay B @ Jul 20 2007, 09:49 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How about the Seattle Shamrocks. I don't think they ever moved! And, one of my favorites, the Argonat-Patriots. Two different Corps ... Percussionaut-Patriots from Spokane, Washington --- Argonauts from Salem, Oregon
  7. Thanks Ed, but I`ll be busy ..... getting into my Baby blue cadet. Have a great time to all
  8. I`m sorry, I am just being silly...Have fun folks
  9. Will this be an actual "Alumni" tailgate party or a "Tribute" party ?
  10. I marched in from 74-81 and I am now playing in a drum line 1000 miles away. I get e-mails with the music, videos with sticking, I can download MP3s. Then I fly down to California, once a month and play with the ensemble. It really is amazing when compared to when I marched jr corps. Another great thing is that I can watch the parking lot videos of the drumlines.
  11. I just viewed the video. Even as a member of The KAC it brought chills. The Kingsmen had an aura about them, even when they were less successful than in their glory years. It is an absolute honor to march with this group of people, I would not have picked up my drumsticks and work as hard as I have for any other corps. I`m saddened that some may feel threatened by our performance, I dont exactly understand what the issue is. This is a celebration, not only for the marching members of the Kingsmen Alumni Corps but for our activity as well. This is probably the only opportunity to witness an "old style" Drum Corps that will be performed at the same level of pride and commitment that people will ever see. I speak for myself when I say I swell with pride when I talk of the Kingsmen. It has been alot more work than I anticipated and it has cost more money than I am comfortable with. But the rewards are greater than I could ever have imagined. I am realizing my "Musical Fantasy". In five weeks this will be over for me, I will come back to my real world, but I will be better for it. I hope that folks will enjoy our show and even those that prefer something more modern will at least give the corps the respect that it deserves. But at the end of the day If someone calls me names and tells me it was a prehistoric mess, I will still take pride in the accomplishment. The following night at finals will be the first show I watch this year and I really look forward to being there. I will give the corps they respect they deserve. I hope that in 30-35 years they get an opportunity such as the one I have been given.
  12. The last Show I attended was last summer. I remember at one point the folks in front of me turned around and asked me to be quiet. I was talking to an old friend who I had not talked to for awhile about everything non-related to drum corps, and we were talking in normal voices, not loudly. We felt bad at the time and allowed the people to enjoy the from that moment on. ...... People attend these shows for different reasons. Myself I go to see old friends from my marching days and to catch up while enjoying the sounds of the activity. Some people have family members or friends in the local corps and of course there are the true die hards who are trying to savor every moment of every corps. The people in front of us asked us respectfully to keep the talking down and we did. If their request would have been agressive and mean, eventually they probably would have chose to move. Crowd noise is part of the activity, people are there to support only one corps or to be around the activity and see others of the same......My suggestion is that if you find yourself in a situation where someone around you is talking, let them know, but do not be dis-respectful, chances are they will feel badly and become quieter.
  13. We used two 6in drums mounted in front of a normal tri configuration during the 1981 season in the Seattle Imperials. The snares had three 4in drums which allowed for some unique sounds at the time.
