  1. I can only repeat: this was one of the most awesome show designs -- music and drill -- I have every seen, and I've been watching since 1976. I really enjoyed Madison at finals this year.
  2. In the 70s, there were a lot of great shows that, in retrospect, were very thematic, but they just didn't have a name. The music was enough. Thanks to all for your answers
  3. I too only see generally two shows a year, and perhaps that is why the theme is less perceptible. I don't mind themes. I loved 007 and Machine. ("I get it!"). Didn't really enjoy the Cadets so much ("I get it already!"), but that's just me. I liked the Crossmen in '06 -- really fun. But what I really love is pounding (or beautiful) music and energetic, eye popping drill, and it isn't necessary for the show to have a name for me to enjoy it. Themes are here to stay, and I am fine with that, but my question is really more: do good GE scores require the theme?
  4. It has never been this competitive score wise, but I haven't been really emotionally engaged by any of the shows yet. Still haven't been to a live show yet, though, and I expect Drums Along the Rockies will change my point of view.
  5. There were some interesting posts under "SCVs 7th place finish" regarding how the theme of "Eureka" is expressed through the drill and the music. The larger question is "do shows need themes at all?" I think not. I think the music is enough. BD '76 is still among my favorite shows, and there is no theme. SCV '99 is another. Some have posted here that a corps placement may depend on the legibility of the theme. Is this true?
  6. This is interesting, and quite counter to my impression. I never thought shows needed a concept to have a hook -- memorable music and drill that matches it should do it. But SCV this year has a concept that involves an entire stadium yelling the name of the show when the "!" appears! I think only the cadets drive their theme home more strongly, and I personally think that is too much. I would argue that the Blue Devils concept has much less holding it togther than SCV, and they won.
  7. I love this page, and refer to it every day. Nothing shows how tight the top 7 are this year better than this graph. Thanks for your hard work ... it is well appreciated! I agree with the suggestions made above for improvement. One other possibility would be a legend that lists the corp name next to the line type for the corp. Everyone is so close this year, it is hard to tell which corp is which sometimes.
  8. I agree. The show just stopped ... there's more coming.
  9. I have just listened to the Cadets APD -- it's the first time I have heard their show this year. It seems to me that there are a number of musical references to shows of past years, but I haven't been around long enough to place them exactly. Can someone identify the clips from the past in this years show?
  10. Sorry about the dumb question, but how do you edit shows down to songs? I have an IPOD, and have imported shows into Itunes.
