  1. Your reply leads me to believe you're a BHO supporter. My comments stated were because I for one would not trust any of the 7, no matter how "transparent" and sincere they say they are. To me, they still want to reach their initial goals, but are trying to do it from a different approach.
  2. Will you or won't you buy this book?
  3. A friend e-mailed a letter from "the 7" dated Jan. 9th. If this is the letter you all have discussed, this old dude is a little late to the game. First thoughts are the author needs to learn how to spell the Crusaders directors last name. It seems like the 7 are pleading to sit at the table. That's already been done, but I wish they had called the 7's bluff. The 7 need the others to act as their feeder corps for experienced talent. Granted, the mm will blow off this family feud and go top seven hunting anyways. Hopefully the non 7 directors will play hardball during every topic discussed from now on even if it's about the easiest item on the to do list.
  4. This reminds me of a similar gig I was in. Back in the mid 70's the 26th Yankee Division (MA) allowed a bunch of D&BC veterans to form the 26th YD D&BC which was not part of the band. Since, at the time, this was all new and there were no Army MOS numbers for D&BC, I was slotted as a sax player. It was comprised of mostly Crusaders with many other Boston area corps included. At our first AT (annual training) up at FT. Drum, NY we were invited to play at a military type tattoo at some castle. We played Fanfare For The Common Man. We began playing outside the castle, then marched inside to complete our "routine". We set some sort of record that first AT with the number of cases of beer consumed. The band hated us because whenever we did a military function, we were statues when stopped. Plus, the Commanding General would have us play at any formal staff functions.
  5. OK MB, how many years have you been waiting to drop that video on us?
  6. Whether or not DCI stays in one place for many years a travelling museum gets my vote. It would not, with one rig, be able to stop at every show site, but over several years it should be able too. The major shows and finals week is a given each year. A video of how current drills are created.
  7. At least 2-4 video stations were one has access to every corps performance for every year they marched and had a video made. Might have to rely on fan hand held videos for some corps.
  8. If this happened, for me "it's time to say goodbye".
  9. Hopefullly the parents of the member who carried that drum in the parade can win the bid if they have even considered it.
  10. I understand where Brasso is coming from, but there is still much of a corps musical numbers that continue at the same tempo. Maybe that's where the members eyes have to be trained to constantly switch from drill corrections to the Dm(s). Maybe that is happening curently or just with certain corps that emphasize the importance of eye use during drill. In the course of a show the members stride might be a little off and the angle they use, especially marching backwards, might be off one degree. Eye use will help them make corrections after reaching their spot or as they approach their spot and notice their spacing needs an ajustment. Maybe it's more complicated than I believe it to be.
  11. I feel there is no need for the DM's to direct most of the music, no matter what era. Sure there are moments when the DM is needed to change the tempo or for the ending, but once the music starts, the musicians have the beat and off they go. Spots or no spots, the musicians should be using their eyes to get their drill moves cleaner. During rehearsals, I'd suggest having the DM off the stand which would train the rest of the corps to teach themselves to work on their drill. For the most part, they can play the music in their sleep. A high percentage of DM's are not really conducting, just going through the standard arm movements, but this may be how the instructors want it.
  12. It's not too late to send the Crusaders a small donation to offset their costs.
  13. In hindsight I wonder if when the corps was considering alumni to march today, I should have contacted them. Might have been cool to have someone who also marched in 65. And I could still fit in a uniform!
  14. Thanks wvu80 (see if I pick them again in bowl games!), but as mentioned, 90% of my viewing is not on the big screen, just the laptop. Earlier today I watched the final three from 2000 and there was no issues. Will try the 60" after football. I even realized that there was a slight breeze during finals and that's why the plastic was "surfing". Ivins, UT is between some hills and we had to get a landline since our cell signals were weak. It must be the same for wi-fi.
  15. I fist noticed this issue when I began watching year 74 and upward. Year 99 seemed fine, but today with 2000, even on the laptop, it's been lousy. Most of my viewing has been on the laptop. All of 94 and 2000 has been changing shades of green, in block forms, and even the black plastic used on the far side of U. of MD stadium ripples as if the wind was blowing and that was my first year to attend finals. With the screen starting to have the old black tree growing up from the bottom, I'm starting to look into a new system. This HP Pavilion DV6 is several years old, so it's processor does not have the power available today.
  16. Have only had the FN for about two months, but want to know if certain years had videos that were not as sharp. The fields have moving shades of green and the video stops. The stops might be the signal, but we have 10MB. Can't figure it out if it's the laptop, Baja signal, etc. 94 was bad and have had 2000 up today and that's a joke. When it's bad, forget hooking up the HDMI to use the 60". Thanks for any suggestions.
  17. Ear plugs stock is a good buy now! (Wonder how this works into the MIM crowd plans.)
  18. do the Drum & Bugle Corps family a favor. With so many of you on twitter, facebook, etc. someone must know someone, who knows someone, etc. that is connected to the major news networks who will be covering the inauguration on Monday. After finishing this post, I'm going to send e-mails to networks, locally/nationally, to ask them to get the word to the parade producers that the Boston Crusaders are a D&BC and not a band. Just a little homework assignment for us all. 7P's baby!
  19. As of now, Monday looks like low 40's, partly sunny, 10% chance of rain, and light winds. Here's a story from a lady who also marched in the 65 parade. http://www.bostoncrusaders.com/news/267-1965-presidential-inauguration
