  1. What bothers me more is the lack of information about judging the new things. I mean, how are the electronics judged? What about when they are overbearing/too loud in a particular place, do the judges deduct for that? How do we know? Same for voice, how is that judged, the quality of the voice, appropriateness of the sound/volume etc. It just seems to me that in effect, we are moving from a place where we knew as fans how things were put on the sheets to now, where a large part of the show's judging is a complete mystery, and left unexplained. Why?
  2. Watched the Dekalb show first (no problem,no glitches), then went to the Denver show (constant buffering/delays). And I reset it 3 times before just resigning myself to watching it with 15-20 seconds of show, 4 seconds of stopping/buffering. Maybe it was due to all the Dekalb people switching over, and their server couldn't handle it? If so, why so unprepared?
  3. Well, we do know one caption placement. At the Lynn Mass show a couple of weeks ago, the announcer said that they'd created a new percussion caption, named after some luminary from there, and the Cadets won it. Though no score was given. For those of us for whom following the captions was an integral part of enjoying the development of the shows over the summer, this is a huge slap in the face from DCI. This is an amateur activity and performance levels vary from show to show, we can see that ourselves. Why can't the judges? And if the judges cannot do their jobs, .ie. look at each show each night as a fresh start and have the cajones to score what they see and stand behind it, then they have no business being judges. AJMHO
  4. I predict that the Cadets will reverse what they did last year., and put on the regular Cadet uniform for the last 2 weeks of the season. The same thing is happening this year as happened last year with these black ones - you can't see a thing visually with them. But it could work to their advantage if they reverse it this year. They will have cleaned the show to it's zenith, THEN have the visual impact of the cream pants/white shoes, which will be a simple but elegant way to drive the GE higher. Ta-da..!! :-)
  5. It would be nice o see which captions they did well in and which need more work, comparatively. But we can't know because they won't release the recaps! This is a ridiculous & intolerable situation. FREE THE SCORES, DCI....!!!
  6. It is absolutely ridiculous for there to be no recaps. Does DCI not know their fan base enough to know that we follow the recaps like glue? It is part of the excitement of following the competition throughout the season. And why should the fan be punished if the judges don't or won't agree to man up and treat each show like it is a fresh start? These are amateur musicians, and there are wide variations in performances level from performance to performance. We all know that, we all can see that. Why can't they simply have the confidence in their abilities as judges to give the score they see? That is all that is asked from them, on any given night. And if they can't do it, and exhibit a pattern of "slotting" then what was all their training for? Why are they still judges? Get some who can do the job! This makes the entire experience so much diminished. DCI needs to correct this immediately, before they ruin the season. I just got back from watching the Pittsburgh show tonight, and I really want to know who won percussion, who won brass. How the judges came to their conclusions. Hiding information is NEVER the answer! Free dissemination of information is! We, as fans who pay for the activity through tickets & merchandise sales need to DEMAND that DCI FREE THE SCORES...!!! Email Dan Ackerman TODAY...!!
  7. Blue Devils also do an amazing job of integrating the electronics & amplification into their shows, and I would argue more effectively into their horn line. That is what he said. That is what John F. Kennedy said. :-)
  8. Cavies Rule. I refuse to reveal more....
  9. I know for certain that SCV marched overage members in 2 of their '70's Championship years.
  10. It's because, traditionally, nobody believes anything the Cadets say about what their show is going to entail until the 3rd "announcement". Anyone who has been around a while knows this....
  11. The entire audience is sucked through Crown's actual wormhole, and are deposited in a distant future where Pioneer has won 12 straight Championships. Roman Blenski is apparently considered the ultimate Drum Corps Guru. Everyone from Sections 241's head explodes.... :)
  12. Cavies throw caution to the wind and come out and perform a reprise of "Machine" to perfection, having thrown it together this afternoon in intense, closed rehearsals. Everyone's head in Section 241 explodes..... Set, Game, Match.... :-)
  13. I foresee a time, in the not-so-distant future, where DCI Finals has a tiny, Open Class-level attendance, and a large stay-at-home audience with VERY nice home theater systems. Rondo & Co. will be talking to a cavernous, empty room, echoing off the walls. And everyone will wonder: "Where did all the people go? Long time passing...." AJMHO :-)
  14. Crown. Because they are close enough to BD to be plausible, have been "Bridesmaid" too may times, and DCI wants to please the fans. And SCV will not pass Cadets, the Cadets simply won't let it happen. There may be some ties along the ranks. Full disclosure, I root for the Cavies. Enjoy, all! :-)
