  1. I was once considering doing DCA but couldn't because of this college scenario and lots of commitments in those first couple weeks.
  2. Same here. The top 5 was so good it didn't matter how they placed. But I am competitive so it's hard to keep away...
  3. An identity restricts the corps' creativity, unless you're talking a very generic identity - ie, Crown's great brass line, or Cadets belief in constant motion. Just pick cool music please, and if you do it well I don't care what your identity is
  4. Corps 2-5 stayed the same for three straight nights. I'm definitely cool with how they ended up, but you can't tell me that those 4 amazing groups finished in the exact same order 3 nights straight after trading victories all season and a VERY TIGHT quarters night. Thought after 2008 things might change competitively, but once again there was only one placement change in DCI Finals - between 8th and 9th. Not upset about these results last night! Just wish things were a little more exciting through the week...feels like people are too susceptible to performance order, even among the lower scoring corps.
  5. Tough call between Cadets 05 and Cavies 02, but if we're talking about best corps of the decade, I think that has to be the Cavaliers. They really set the standard through 2006 and changed the way visual programs were produced.
  6. Will be attending a DCA show in Kingston NY and checking scores via Twitter
  7. You wonder though, if Crown increases their visual demand/technique, will they lose that awesome hornline sound they have? But they have all next year to work that out. I don't think Crown's visual is a problem. You have to take little steps. Corps don't just go from 5th or 4th to champions overnight. It can happen for those who have been at the top for years, but getting there in the first place takes time. This has been a great landmark year for CC. 2nd or 3rd tonight they should be happy. They are going to beat 2-3 elite corps this year, something that wasn't expected at all when the season began. You could argue that beating Cadets in 08 put them on that level, but it wasn't exactly a stellar year for HNC. In 09 they are taking out groups that are having phenomenal years. CC and their followers should look at tonight as a celebration of how far they have come and how good they now are. You never know, maybe the show isn't as good next year, maybe other corps step it up more...who knows!!! Enjoy where you are as it's a great spot to be in
  8. That has kept me distracted enough from this nonsense. Nice to honor them but lets do it AFTER the last two scores PLEASE.
  9. And there goes my stream. AGAIN. Will not be buying live pass next year.
  10. Who knows, BAC or HNC could throw out an 84 and they'd both be in.
  11. Or on the old AIM, invite yourself to "drumcorps" ...whichever gains more traction. Posting on the forums and having to refresh all the time is lame
  12. Standalone thread because the GDT is going to churn through pages mega-fast.... Link Here Go to AIM and invite yourself to drumcorps
  13. Is it just me or could they have arranged for more emotion in that ending? I'm sure the performers were really into it but it didn't come off that way.
  14. What high school did you go to? It's MUCH easier than people make it out to be, unless of course you're trying out for snare. If your school was marginally competitive you will have a decent shot.
  15. You see that GE "Perf"??? That's the stuff that makes the fans go nuts - emotion and power and etc. PERF and REP are judged too equally with GE. As my understanding, for GE it's NOT the What vs. How, it's more two seperate ways of determining GE. It should be possible to have one really high and the other not, but in practice this never happens. You save what/how for the basic performance judges. Somehow this gets confused. Or maybe I just can't understand the sheets
  16. I don't mind the WGI influence on the field. The problem is in the judges box, where exceptional guard routines are rewarded while the hornline is overlooked. Many DCI visual judges are from WGI which puts too much focus on guards when it comes to visual scores.
  17. What you're seeing now is similar to BOA earlier this decade. If you were to watch BOA Finals the past couple years, a classic DCI fan may just have a heart attack. Some REALLY out there stuff. Ever watch Tarpon Springs, FL? But that doesn't mean BOA was any less exciting to watch...
  18. Oh yeah? Blue Devils show is easier than Blue Devils B. JK (or is it???)
  19. Yes was going to say, Cadets use amps decently in this years' program as it's almost an old/new hybrid. I'll assume SCV is still the same; haven't watched them in a few weeks. Crown 2007 was a great mix as well. MELODIES and FLOWING MOVEMENTS should be the focus, and that's what draws fans in, amps or guard props or not.
  20. I agree with you. But there are more ways to do this without having to revert to 1970s/80s like design principles.
