  1. I must say, even though I've seen this collage before... I am humbled to be in so many pictures that whoever put this together deemed as important to the history of the corps and to be one of the few chosen to be pictured alone... (with the likes of Gebby and Mercurio... just WOW) and then to see my daughter with the new brigs many years later... amazing memories of a great time... Thank you Syracuse... oh and points to Moe Knox who took that picture of me at Legion 67 in Fenway Park and it appeared on the cover of Drum Corps News...
  2. Butch was a sweet horn player... very talented... and yes, he was a great leader... It was a pleasure to work with him and under him in 1971
  3. Brigadiers ALWAYS fought among themselves back then... but like the others, it was a fight of "brothers"... they'd kill each other but If a 3rd person stepped in, watch out... they would suddenly be brothers again and both go at the 3rd party trying to break them up...
  4. I guess I don't know the significance of Greenwood Lake and Skyliners but it sure brought back memories for me... My last remaining uncle (now in his 90's) bought a home on Greenwood Like in the late 50's... He sold it in the 90's ... the home he'd bought for a few thousand dollars sold for 7 figures... amazing... in 1969 on our honeymoon, my bride and I walked all around Greenwood Lake on the ice... completely frozen... anyway... amazing place...
  5. To the Queen and all her minions... Happy New Year... May 2014 bring you and yours peace and tranquility...
  6. on and on we can go... yes the pepe site is from Ron Allard... he has all of these... and MUCH more... but you had to know him to appreciate some of them... I'm sure it's a part of srcorps.com or seniorcorps.com whatever he called it...
  7. lol that wasn't his leg he was scratching... and yes, he was a great trumpeter... as Ken Mc and I found out at the hotel one DCA with Ken on piano and Pepe on trumpet... amazing sounds... which leads into a repeat of my favorite Pepe story... Late 60's I'm in Brigs at a show in upstate NY somewhere... probably Herkimer... anyway, he comes up to me and asks, "Peash can I borrow your horn, mine just broke." to which the smart alec kid I was responded "Sure Pepe but we just cut all these horns to G/F and the figuring is different." and of course the classic nasal response that sounded like the Godfather "That's ok kid... I don't use the F...................g valves anyway." My horn was never the same and he sounded better than ever... still laughing over 40 years later... and really, it's the kind of story you just couldn't make up... reality drum corps at its best...
  8. Pepe? Oh my... Thank you for the compliment... He borrowed my horn at one show... My horn said "Thank You" "Thank You" "Thank You" all the way home....
  9. I think most of the "differences" would mean disqualification but remember some keyboard amplification is allowed starting this summer... the differences continue to shrink... both kidsgrove and heartliner slightly modified their shows for DCA, but it was small... they really didn't need to do much since it was taken into account in the original design phase what restrictions they would have to comply with. but big things like numbers must be complied with... less than 35 or more than 128 and I doubt a corps would even be allowed on the field at prelims... but remember... I'm old and retired... can't speak for DCA...
  10. Czapinski... sorry yes.. I know better... it was a senior moment
  11. Just so you guys who don't follow DCI don't miss it... Gary "Chops" Czapinski passed on... DCI has confirmed it and spoken to Marie. What a tremendous part of the activity he (and his wife) have been... a great loss for sure...
  12. wow.... just wow... My sincerest condolences to Marie and the family...
  13. not quick to believe everything posted on facebook... but a reliable source has just posted that Gary "Chops" Chapinski is gone... can someone in the know confirm this? If so - that is a huge loss for the activity and my thoughts go out to his family and friends...
  14. yup... actually too broke... I'd have bought them if I had had any money... but started with nothing, am ending with nothing but had a ball in between...
  15. Hope all you peeps are well... unfortunately, I am unable to put a name with a face as it's obviously someone I SHOULD know but don't... keep the clues coming...
  16. Sorry to hear this... definitely one of the "good" guys
  17. correct "THE Don" which is what you get when you give a bass drummer those old and LOUD and dangerous wooden mallets... bass drummer to be feared, strong back and weapons in his hands
  18. I have his address... will get a card off... I missed this entirely until I saw it on facebook... when did it happen? Glad he's home...
