  1. My wife is from Bloomington (her father was faculty at IU). We met at Purdue.
  2. Being treated better because you gave $ to Friends of DCI sounds basically like the ‘better’ treatment you receive for giving $ at certain establishments located in rural Nevada.
  3. You should have seen security at the Pentagon on 12 Sep 2001.
  4. I was stationed in DC, lived in Northern VA when the first DCI Classic Countdown happened. Was sitting w/ a bunch of folks that turned out to be USMC D&BC.
  5. I may or may not remember a college party that featured a watermelon that had soaked in gin for several days.
  6. Nope - just the base of the food chain. And it produces a useful waste product- molecular oxygen
  7. You could make a big batch & serve it from a hollowed out watermelon for extra GE points. Not sure if the watermelon would be considered a prop.
  8. Wish I could watch it but I have to teach a lab on photosynthesis. Of course, without photosynthesis there would be no Drum Corps.
  9. Also much easier to track numbers without need yellow sheets of paper that can accidentally be left on the field
  10. We used to like the fact that we were on the same sheets- we could see how we stacked up against the powerhouses. After I aged out there was a show where drums were within 0.5 of Phantom. I understand that there were some heated exchanges in the critique.
  11. Well it ends after midnight eastern time, so by definition you will see it tomorrow
  12. I take it they don't assign under-time penalties any more? I can recall (& suspect you can too) unprepared Corps at early contests going to parade-rest after performing partial show to avoid a penalty.
  13. I am retired USAF; made the opposite trip several times. There was an 0545 flight out of Norfolk that got me (via Atlanta) to San Diego mid afternoon. I got to watch the sun rise over the Atlantic & set over the Pacific on the same day. Took Lewis & Clark longer than a day.
  14. That is what some were saying about Santa Clara last night. Still too many moving parts to make a prediction.
  15. Yesterday people were saying SCV was a lock for a medal. What a difference a day makes.
  16. Agree. 10th, 12th, 9th, or 13th maybe. But definitely not 11th.
  17. Just luck for them I guess as schedule came out way before fuel cost increase acceleration
  18. Yup - And I will say that it doesn't make too much sense to head to CA & AZ for early shows that are on weekends, and having to find housing for the week. I suppose they could go to the midwest, and then return to Wyoming & Denver for DCI-West. That said, Blue Knights, who are from the same general area are going to CA next weekend.
  19. Schedule says Troopers first contest is in 8 July, almost two weeks from now. Do you think that this will have an impact on their scores? Many other Corps will have 2 weeks of judging under their belts by this point, with re-writes & cleaning underway. Troopers could be somewhat behind the curve based on schedule alone. PS - I miss Granny Smith, #1 Troopers fan
  20. Do you know how to make Holy Water? You take ordinary water and boil the h*ll out of it.
  21. Based on one contest, with 2 finalists from the previous competitive season, it is far too early to tell whether a show will be a championship contender. Far too many moving parts that we have not yet seen. We can say that Mandarins & SCV seem to be in a good position to make finals, and that Gold, Academy & PC have potential. But that is about it.
