  1. I wonder how the SoA 2021 situation(s) would have been handled had Jones or Warren been in charge of the Corps. I know former members of Cavaliers who shuddered if Don Warren saw them causing trouble & said 'Misbehaving member, come over here, we need to have a little talk...' (they still tell these stories 40 years later).
  2. In 1970-72 there were leaders in the activity such as George Bonfiglio, Don Warren, & esp Jim Jones (to name a few) who were willing to lay it all on the line; say 'The current situation just isn't working for us'; & then actually do something about it. I do not see leaders like that in the activity today.
  3. I have been saying this since the Hopacolypse -DCI needs a strong, empowered executive director that is willing to make the hard calls, rather than leaving it to the individual Corps. In the NFL, the owners pay Roger Goodell to deal with TBI, off-field assaults, deflated footballs, etc.so the owners don't have to. And when the NFL speaks, that is that. Yes, deflate-gate was litigated in court, but I doubt any Corps in DCI has the resources to go that route.
  4. Don't forget that there are standing allegations on Reddit against 4 DCI Corps. So far as I can determine there has been no response by DCI or the Corps themselves. Note to DCI - the 'problem' didn't go away w/ SoA. Here are Reddit links. Blue Devils https://www.reddit.com/r/drumcorps/comments/s2uflq/bd_sa_story/ SCV New Director https://www.reddit.com/r/drumcorps/comments/s5121f/blackmailed_by_assistant_corps_director/ Battalion https://www.reddit.com/r/drumcorps/comments/s2q1eh/my_experience_w_multiple_battalion_members/ Raiders https://www.reddit.com/r/drumcorps/comments/s2jxo0/my_experience_marching_raiders_in_2019/ A while back I posted this. I don't believe there are any updates. DCI - What are you doing w/r/t these allegatins? I am not planning to let this slide.
  5. Yes - & the judge marked it on the bottom of the sheet as a penalty. Whichever judge picked it up marked the penalty- example if field brass judge gave rifle back there was nowhere on brass execution sheet for dropped equipment, so it was marked at bottom as a penalty.
  6. It is because that it is recorded as a penalty (which any field judge (not just M7M) could mark & then give the dropped rifle back). It indeed counted as 1/10 anywhere else, but it was listed as a penalty & that drew attention to it.
  7. Or maybe an app on smartphone to records fan ticks / scores that automatically sends them to a scorekeeper? And that way Flo-watchers could participate as well.
  8. We used mercury from broken thermometers as a puck for playing hockey using meter-sticks. In my current college lab if a mercury thermometer was broken we would evacuate the building.
  9. It was an improvement over our parent's generation - polio & other vaccines, antibiotics, etc.
  10. I can think up some inappropriate slogans & merch based on the member abuse scandal. But that is probably not what DCI has in mind.
  11. I agree - but do individual victims know how to contact other victims? We are talking a period of 30+ years and (at least) 2 Corps. There would need to be someone like Tricia Nadolny to help connect the dots. And I know she tried but evidently there wasn’t enough material to publish.
  12. Yes - the ostracism is bad enough when a member/victim is in a perennially13th or lower placed Corps. I can only imagine what it would be like for a member/victim of two multi-year champions & perennial contenders came forward. Granted, that happened w/ Cadets, but there were so many victims, plus an investigative reporter & a district attorney involved that is blunted some of the victim-shaming. And even then there were attempts at it.
  13. The individual in question, prominent in the activity since the 1980s, has disappeared from the activity. Also, surprisingly, the individual was nowhere to be seen in the funeral video of the DCI HOF & Founding Father that gave the individual their first Drum Corps job. It does make me wonder if DCI quietly banned the individual, or if there is some sort of self-banishment underway?

  15. I can't watch it either. I do feel sorry for the actors who don't get any money from syndication fees because no channel will show Cosby reruns.
  16. There is a recent allegation on Reddit that a couple years back a member of Blue Devils raped another member. I have seen no response from BD., although OP states there has been a response behind the scenes.
  17. Pioneer had a 'family culture' as well. Families can be dysfunctional.
  18. IIRC what got the Tailhook scandal rolling was a 60-minutes piece; they had the female helo pilot who was assaulted, etc. And I suspect you, having lived it as well, know how big a deal it turned out to be (in USAF the same reforms happened; but the spotlight was on the Navy). People got fired; careers were ended; people lost their livelihood - All for good reason. Where I get confused is whether: 1 DCI/Corps don't really care that abuse is happening?, or 2 DCI/Corps want to stop the abuse but don't know how to do it?, or 3 DCI/Corps want to stop the abuse but don't have the courage to do it?
  19. I worked under same system in DoD. The difference is that in DoD there is teeth to the policy, and the organization is more than willing to use the teeth when needed. It has been proven time and again that DCI/Corps cannot, or do not want, to discipline themselves. It only happened with Cadets, Pioneer, Crossmen, & Troopers when news media picked up the story. With SoA nothing happened until a brave victim came forward (after hiring a law firm). All of this happened in public. And the publicity debacle is what forced action, not DCI/Corps doing the right thing for the right reasons. There are current allegations against Raiders, Battalion, & SCV new director. What is DCI doing about this? It would appear NOTHING.
