  1. I'll ask this here because I figure I'll get a faster answer than emailing DCI (since it's 9pm). Is the 2006 CD all Div I or just the top 12? It doesn't say either way and I thought at one point the website said the CD was just top 12 and you had to download the rest of the corps. Anyone know? Thanks!
  2. I think we should! Our 2011 Open House will run 10-4 at the shiny and (still pretty) new Manassas Park High School in Manassas Park, VA. MPHS is our rehearsal home all season long. We are smack in the middle of Northern Virginia, so if you are in Fairfax, Prince William, Arlington, Alexandria, etc. County, you're not that far from us. Please email me at PR@ShenandoahSound.org for more info!
  3. Yeah. Normally we have our open house weekend in late November or early December. But we've found that with the plethora of high school concerts, plays, and sports in the Northern Virginia area, a lot of HS kids are too busy. So, this year, we're waiting until after all the New Year's craziness to get started. The corps will be running a few small ensembles during the winter which will perform at various holiday functions in the area. We'll also have some rehearsals with veteran members in preparation for the full open house. We've been doing a lot of recruiting at local band shows and in the community, and we are very excited to get started for 2011.
  4. Virginia's Drum Corps: Shenandoah Sound is pleased to announce its 2010 Open House! Please join us Jan 9 at Manassas Park High School in Manassas Park, Virginia to kick off our 2011 season. Shenandoah Sound is Virginia's only drum corps and the only competitive corps within 3 hours of Washington DC. We're coming off one of our best seasons ever and we'd love to have you join us for 2011. Stay tuned for more details.
  5. There was a Carmen-fest in 2000 in Div II/III. In Finals, I think there were 3 or 4 corps playing Carmen music. In 1999, both SCV and The Crossmen played Blue Shades. In 2003, you had the Cadets and Boston Crusaders play Malaguena. I remember that for the mini-controvercy about the Cadets "stealing" another corps' signature tune.
  6. to Shenandoah Sound's DM/Baritone soloist, Mr. T.J. Agee! T.J. is also our brass caption head and a band director in Prince William County, VA.
  7. -Kids from other countries (Japan, South Africa) who may only get to march one year. -Lots of rook-outs -Some kids do leave for other groups -Money issues & burn out (typical for all corps)
  8. Freshly cooked pasta and cheese was always the best. That and pancakes on Sunday morning
  9. Amen to that! We have the same problem in Northern VA and Suburban MD. Congrats on the new arrangement-We hope to see you guys back on the field soon!!!
  10. I love the mini corps show! Unfortunately, my corps performed early in the Prelims show the next morning so I couldn't hang around for the entire competition. I watched the first few groups and then played warm-up lizard for a few minutes before going to bed. Marksmen-Interesting show idea, nice performance. I didn't have the best seat (near the food) so I didn't get the best listen. I was able to move much closer to the stage for the next few corps. Sine Wave- Very enjoyable show! Well done. Freelancers- My favorite by far. Crowd pleaser-tons of fun! I couldn't believe the score from Judge 3 when I saw the recap the next day. I think that's actually all I saw because I was tired from the long day (6 hour drive, I&E, etc.) so I walked across the skyway back to the hotel and noticed Star warming up outside. I went to listen to them for a few minutes.
  11. Woo-Hoo!! DCA Finals in my state! That could really help us with recruiting.
  12. We will be rehearsing in Manassas Park Saturday morning and then driving up to Reading for the show.
  13. Who beats up on Pioneer? BD, Cadets. Cavies? They "beat up" on everyone. Pioneer scored over a 75 before finals week. They had GE scores in the 80s before finals week. They weren't going out there and s***ing the bed every night. The corps made big strides this year. Recruiting was improved, the field show was a huge step up from previous years too. If you really want to help the corps, email or call the office. All the contact information is on the Pioneer website.
  14. Nice review. I'm pretty sure that we have the largest spread in member age in DCA. We have an 11 year old pit member (last year's alien) all the way up to a certain DCP poster who is just a little older We are definitely working the grass roots drum corps, trying to build the organization. We are very happy with how our show is fan-friendly. I think the folks in the stands enjoy what we're putting out.
  15. Woo hoo!! It's time for drum corps again. The Shenandoah Sound bus will be leaving Manassas Park, VA in less than two hours for the all-night drive to HOTlanta. Safe travels to our friends the Sun Devils and Alliance (even though you're not going that far ).
  16. It might not be the most competitively successful, but I don't see a problem with a "conservative" guard. I actually like a guard that does guard stuff, not interpretative dance and pretend kissing of male members of the corps.
  17. Congrats to all the Open Class corps. Do they count GE Vis in the "High Visual" category or is it just the performance (Field Vis, Ens Vis, Guard) captions? I ask because Spartans and BDB tied in Visual (not counting GE Vis).
  18. That would be crazy, but if two corps tie for 2nd, there is no bronze medalist. It would go 4-2-2-1
  19. Depends how biased you want it I just got home from the theater and read some of your blog-nice work. Thanks.
  20. During the 17 minute INT, I wish they would show longer, 2-3 min clips of the corps that are not being shown live, instead of the 30 seconds-1 min we get now. Anything would be better than a blue screen with a timer.
  21. I'll be at the Germantown, MD theater, bringing out the green jacket for the first time this summer
