  1. agreed...we used to have consevatives trying to push their opinions down our throats, I'm not sure I want to trade that for a liberal message. Somewhere along the line we all started taking ourselves a little too seriously. Just play LOUDLY and we promise we'll give you a stand O you'll never forget...
  2. Ironic that Murray is going to be Walter Powell's caption head...Walter was his Section Leader in 92...
  3. You're right...I don't think snare drummers are necessarily more talented than any snare drummers were during my day (early 90s), but there are way more talented snare drummers today than there were then. Almost every drumline in the top seven or 8 corps is loaded with talent. A couple of decades ago you could probably only find that kind of talent in one or 2 corps a year, depending on the year, of course.
  4. Somehow people here seem to think that working hard means you should never be booed...in the "real world" many hard working people are unsuccessful. In the entertainment realm, of which DCI is a part, working hard is but the beginning of a road to success. You have to actually be good at something someone wants to see. Having said that, I think the Cadets are awesome...always have been, always will be. I think booing them is classless...just want to make that clear. If you don't like what they are doing, then don't clap, but don't boo...just not cool.
  5. Exactly...I don't boo anything...ever, but you can't blame people who are paying for a show to boo their displeasure.
  6. Of course Cadets didn't use Kevlars themselves in 88, but many other lines did...
  7. Cadets had some great lines during the Hannum years, but the 87 line is the line that finally got the drumline off the 50 and marching like the rest of the corps. With that, plus the addition of Kevlars in 88, I would submit that from 87 to 88 DCI experienced the greatest single year of drumline progress in its history.
  8. agreed..by far the most underrated drumline ever...best overall drumline sound too. It's funny, but I never thought 90 was that good a year for that drumline even though they did very well, winning perc. I think. I've always wondered if they were awarding the 89 drumline posthumorously...
  9. SCV's 89 show touched the heart as well as the mind...most of today's shows leave me amazed from a technical perspective, but SCV 88 and 89 left me on the verge of tears.
  10. First of all let me congratulate you on stating your ideas is a reasonable way...anyway, I understand what you're saying. I don't agree with some of the things cadets are doing, but I respect the heck out of their program. I'd for one be glad for them if they won it all. Hopefully DCI fans will be mature enough to see that these kids are deserving (if they win) and give them their props...
  11. Not trying to flame, but who gets to decide when a post is ridiculous? Like it or not, the "abortion thread" did begin as a question about a drum corps. There are always going to be people with differing opinions about the individual corps, the activity as a whole, and even what's on or off topic. But that's the purpose of a forum...freedom to express our opinions, and to have those opinions critiqued. The type of control you speak of would only allow for a very narrow expression of thought. The very fact that you can express these thoughts, which are completely off topic as far as drum corps is concerned, proves the point. Seems like the logical conclusion to what you're asking for is a forum where everyone is in agreement about everything. Hate to break it to you, but that's not happening. This forum is a cumulative reflection of the collective DCP community...nothing more, nothing less.
  12. By the way that piece is not even similar to Electric Wheelchair...the intro they played is probably taken from Legend of the One Eyed Sailor, which Murray used as the intro for EWC.
