Hmmm....that must've been before I joined... Don't forget the dozen or sho SCV'ers who came over to BD for 84...all that effort and they STILL didn't win Pacific Procession! Mike "The Bearded Wonder" Collins, Mike' Stupometer" Deak, the other Mike is probably the only soloist in the 86 corps who was not a holdover from 84...can't tell who the other guy is from the video... Only because Trombetta was 16 at the time!

Doubtful....and if you ever met Lisa Glaeser (sp?) from the 84 french horn line, you;d realize it...she was 5'2" I think...somehow she always got stuck next to Preston Howard, who was near 6'.

Actually, this one's true....the year was 1985. For some reason (dont remember why) equipment was stored for a night on the nice, brand new (that year) food semi (think Miss Amana from SCV....it was a thing of beauty!). During the night the truck caught fire and all of the drum burned except for one sat of tenors...BD ended up using VKs drums for the next show...maybe two...before Ludwig got replacements in. How about VK burning out 4 semi tractors on the road in 84? Yep....true as well...we'd pass them on the side of the road and pretty much the bus would just say "What...AGAIN?"

Wasn't it 80 or 81 wqhere the rumor went that BD's busses went off a cliff?? As to the 93 Star bit...where would they hide a Dr Beat?? The 1st half of the show was almost never above MP!! Now 84 Crossmen...you hear some VERY clear stick cliks for tempo as the pit starts...Lee????

Yeah....that pretty much sums it up! If you can march clean at Mars, you can march clean anywhere!

Oh man.....the memories you just brought back!! My therapist will send you a bill!! I found myself nodding every time youdescribed the conditions at Mars....and they were just as bad in the early 80s...just ask Rich and Doug! Man...I would love to have one day there again....pain and all.

Not odd at all...Boston's been accused of being the corps version of Tarpon Springs HS for years now...and didn;t Steve Brubaker test out ideas for Cavies on marching bands first? benefits for both programs...the bands get a top notch drill, and Cavuies can have the ideas beta-tested by someone else first...

HOWEVER....her direct interaction with the audience is between other corps' performances....not during. When someone else starts up, she sits down (in fact...I REALLY envy her...she gets to see everyone else...something you know those of us in the top corps almost never get a chance to do.) If I had never seen this thread and she came by me at some point, I would just tink she was a bit off and ignored her....then freaked when I saw her on the field and focused on the show...which is sorta the idea. She's probably better behaved during other corps' shows than many fans....I sorta doubt we'd hear her yell "CRRRRYYYYYYYYYSSSSSSSSTTTTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA".... ^0^

Now if you're talking school girls on the field....how about the "calves from ####" girl from 88 Suncoast??

That's not limited to Jimmy, tho...even I did it a little last year...although I don't have 3 decades of practice like Jimmy!

Actually, Gowdy was NOT the original choice...it was Dick Enberg...who played trombone in his high school marching band...but he has schedule conflicts and Gowdy was available. Kinda wish they could get Enberg now...

It's been said several times that ESPN2 is providing airtime...DCI provides the product...it'll be the same as in previous years...much as a lot of us (myself included) would like a return to the complete top 6, longer clips of the bottem 6, and less behind the scenes...still....IT'S ON ESPN!!

Now....had you been to shows in SoCal (or NorCal last weekend) you would've seen Dream's entire Kill Bill show...Twisted Nerve -- Run Fay, Run -- Green Hornet -- Lonely Shepherd -- and Don't Let me be Mistunderstood... But you weren't, so you didn't! Pity...the Sac performance was as hot as the weather....like a tar roof in Georgia!

Sorry, Garry....disagree with ya here...this is no different than the crowd going ape#### over the onfield warmup....that's njot part of the competitve program, either....yet it draws the crowd to the corps. Hoppy just found a VERY unique way of doing it...props to him...a Hoppy idea I LIKE...it's ####### brilliant! ALSO....show me the rule that would apply...she'd not in the defined field of competition, she;s not doing a judgted performance...she's creating ambience for the program...now, given that this may be a LITTLE before showtime, it's still a great idea. MY question is....what was the reaction from the crowd like the first time the audience "got it"? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . oh yeah....and is she hot?? ^0^

Hmmmm....I'll ask Dave Shaafsma if he shot video of the performance...I know he shot Dream (or rather, someone with his camera, since he was in our contra line) and RCR...maybe you can get a screenshot...it'll all be high camera, tho...depends on how much light the plates shot back...
